Ever since I've owned my rig (bought at 150k miles, now was 195k), my driver side door lock hasn't worked properly. It doesn't work when trying to use the automatic lock/unlock button nor can I lock the car when using the key in the door lock.
I noticed a few days ago that now the door lock is getting sticky when trying to unlock the car as well. I've read a lot of threads but have seen various fixes/remedies, ranging from replacing the lock, to replacing the clips, to wedging a ball on top of the junction box. Anyways, I wanted to see if someone could point me in the right direction so I'm not chasing a ghost.
Issues I'm having with the driver side door:
1) Door lock will not lock when trying to use the key. The key will not turn to the left at all when I try to turn it, no matter how hard I try. The passenger door works fine.
2) The door lock won't lock or unlock when I use the automatic lock button inside the car. All other doors work properly.
3) Now the drivers side door lock is becoming a little sticky when I try to unlock the car. What happens here is I can turn the key about half way and then it stops. If I shake it around a little, it will finally free up and unlock.
My thoughts:
1) There is obviously something wrong with the automatic function in the driver side door. Should I look for a blown fuse or bad connection?
2) I've never had key fob for the rig. I believe the previous owner had an aftermarket alarm system installed then took it out or disabled it before he sold it.
3) Regarding the door lock mechanism, and not being able to lock the car, I've read that you can't lock the car when the key is in the ignition so I'm wondering if the car thinks that the key is in the ignition and that's why I can't turn the key at all to lock the car
4) I've tried to spray wd40 in the lock and that doesn't work.
