Door locks are possessed

Good evening,

I have been on this site for around three years now and this is the first time that I have ever had to post anything. I have always found my answers by searching. Not so lucky this time.

I have an 03 4runner Sport, V8, 4x4, 308,000 on the clock. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I recently had the dash replaced due to the recall. A month or two after the recall my door locks started to lock and unlock by themselves, at 5 or 6 times in succession. Does not do this all the time but every now and they will act like they are possessed.

Also, soon after the door locks started going crazy, I started hearing a clicking (almost like a signal light flasher) noise on left side of Instrument panel. These two things seem to happen at the same time, so I believe they are related in some way. This doesn't happen all the time just every now and then. So its hard to pinpoint what is triggering the problem, the only thing that seems to trigger it depressing the brake pedal. And it seems to it more often in cooler, rainy weather.

I have no idea what is going, have any of you all had this issue? My first thought was the STEALERSHIP was up to no good. But any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what the issue could be, but if this started happening immediately after the dash replacement I would think something didn't go back together the way it came apart during the R&R of the dash, IMHO, it sounds like something electrical is shorting out.

I would take it back to the dealer and have them find the issue and fix it.

I would get ahold of Parts/Service Director and CC your Customer Relations Agent and General Manager informing them you are having issues caused by the dash replacement work during the visit. Respectfully request a date at their convenience to have the dash inspected. They should be able to handle it from there - if not, politely thank them for their assistance in this matter and you would be in touch with Toyota Corporate to learn more info. regarding dash replacement program and local dealers conducting work on behalf of Toyota Corporate.

There's no doubt it sounds like a loose connection. Does your 4runner have an aftermarket alarm system?

Literally have a similar issue. Just bought an 03 4runner sport v6. Noticed the power door locks didn't work inside went to the fuse and it was out. So I put one in and they worked fine. But now they sit there and make noise as if they lock unlock but the actual door lock doesn't move but it's annoying so I pulled the fuse again. Idk what to do

It does not have an aftermarket alarm system.

It sounds like one or more of your actuators are going out. Since the door lock actuator and the sensor (which determines if the door is actually locked) are the same module, it makes sense that the system would keep trying to re-lock the doors if they were not locked all the way. Or a connection which tells the security module that the doors are locked could be loose.

I found out for my issue the locks kept trying to unlock after the car was shut off they would just sit there and click spontaneously trying to unlock. So I pulled the fuse and thought about it and decided I'd pull the battery on my key fob. I threw the fuse back in and drove I a au without an issue... not sure what this means other than the issue is with the remote system.
