Door paint protection

[2010 4runner]

I've looked and searched through the posts and haven't seen anybody talk about it but this morning on my 2010 I notched all 4 doors on the very bottom 6-8" have a rough paint texture, looks like have been sprayed with a rust protection or rhino liner and painted over for rock chip protection. Thinking I had a paint problem I drove down to the dealership and the one 4runner that they had in black had the same thing on the bottom of the doors, I've never seen any other manfacturer do this, is that what it is?

Noticed the same thing, figured (hoped) it was normal and for protection from the elements (especially considering no running boards to prevent damage from all the junk that flies up)

yep, pretty normal. it was on my old Tundra and previous cars...

My Mazda's paint was like that and so is my '05 Tacoma. It's suppose to be a thicker and more chip resistant paint.
