Doors will unlock, but won't lock.

I have a problem with my 2000 4-runner where the doors will unlock, but won't lock.

Doesn't matter if I use the remote or the buttons inside. When I press the door lock button, nothing happens at all. When I unlock the car it's fine.

The dealer is trying to blame my autostart, which is BS.:bash:

Does anyone have any suggestions, or has this happened to them?

key cylinder position?

You know how the Runner will not let you lock the keys in the ignition?

It is my guess it thinks the key is still in the ignition, which may be a function of a remote start.

I'll go with the dealership's diagnosis for now.....how long has the remote starter been installed?

any recent car stereo or other electricals?

The autostart has been installed for years without issue.

When you have the key in the ignition, doesn't the door lock, and then quickly unlock? When I hit the lock button, I hear a small relay sound by the fuse panel, but nothing else happens. I have done some research, and it seems that the fuse panel which houses the relay goes bad. I may have to replace it, if I can find the part number.
 
Fixed the problem by replacing the junction box on the drivers side, where the fuses are contained.

I paid $150 or so for the part.

Easy to replace, did the job in about 15 minutes.

$150 for the box? Everyone else says its $500, where did you find this great deal?
 
I am having the same problem. Does anyone have a part number or more info on where this part is located? Maybe a pic? Thanks for the info.
 
Thanks I went to the link. Since my symptoms seem identical to yours I will probably just order it and swap them out. Should fix the problem.

My keyless entry doesnt work, so when i get out of the car i just hit the lock button on the door panel. It locks fine the first time but if i have to unlock and relock the car the second time it wont lock. I then have to shut the door and turn the key in the door which locks all the doors.

Does it sound like these are symptoms of the faulty fuse box?
 
My problem is only with the lock function. Unlock works fine. The remote and lock button in the car won't work. If I manually lock all doors and then press lock on the remote the alarm will arm. It is only the lock function. I ordered the part and I'll let you guys know if it works.
 
Problem is solved by replacing the part. Thank you guys so much for the information. Part was about $208 with shipping.

Hey that link only takes me to the 4Runner page on that web site and the part numbers I have don't seem to work either. Does anyone have the part number?
 
funny thing is that this happened to me in 2004 with my 2000 T4R

A good electrical guy (the one that installed my aftermarket alarm on my car) pinpointed the junction box.

8 years later.... it went out again.

but for the life of me I cant remember what exactly it was. I think it was the fuse box... AKA the junction box with the engine immobilizer. Back then it cost me like $220 through the mechanic to go through the dealer.

nowadays it's about the same. I just ordered it from parts.com. We'll how that goes.

But just to be clear, which one did you buy?
Theres like 5 different choices when I click that link.

-Junction block right
-Junction block left
-Junction block driver side, w/o immobilizer
-Junction block driver side, w/ immobilizer
-Junction block center

Anyone know which one to get?
 
I'm actually tryin to get one from a part-out and save some bucks. Everything I've read indicates it's drivers side junction block. As mine is a Ltd. with Toyota alarm, I'm assuming it's with immobilizer.

Let me know if the part works out for you.
