Double deck cargo removal

After carrying boxes and playing around with the double deck cargo in the 4Runner for two weeks I came to the conclusion that it wasn't really useful or practical for me, so this afternoon I decided to remove the double deck systems from my 4Runner. Here are some pictures of the cargo area with the deck removed....

I would do that too if it didn't leave a gap. Plus, it makes for an unlevel cargo area, which makes it a pain to slide boxes and such into. Unfortunate that we can't remove couble decker cargo crap and have no gap and a level surface of cargo area. Hopefully next 4Runner design will not have DDC.

Whats the big deal? If you left it down, it doesnt really get in the way, not worth it to remove it IMO, id rather have it since it protects the carpet underneath.

You can purchase the trim piece(s) that makes the cargo floor leveled, I just didn't opt to go that direction.

Actually, that piece doesn't really make it level, but it definately helps by making a slope between the two sections where the gap was.

Like you, I've never really used mine, I just leave it in the down position.

It doesn't come standard (at least not in '08) but it (well, mine anyways) came in this Extra Value Package which is:

Double Decker Cargo

My 07 Sport came with it. My optional equipment totaled $4143. I am looking at my actual window sticker on a August 2007 purchase. The CM-Double Decker Cargo system is listed at $125. there is no other code for the optional equipment as a package.

Seems like you wasted more time than it was worth. Ir doesn't look right. Besides why wouldn't you just keep it locked in the down position.

Mine came with the DD cargo , its been in the down/locked position since I got it a year and a half ago forgot I even had it until this thread popped up.

Double decker system is only standard on the Limited trim. Depending on the regional distributor it maybe ordered on SR5 and Sport Edition trims.

Toyota doesn't manufacture vehicles with "packages". The option combinations arranged in various "packages" are ordered by the regional distributor for simplicity of choices, otherwise there could be a ton of different 4Runners in options alone outside of color. In my region, the only 2WD 4Runner on dealer lots are SR5s with the V6. Be hard to find a 2WD in Sport or Limited trim, not that it doesn't exist, but those are rarely ordered by Northern California. Using the build feature on Toyota.com and local zip code will give a general idea of the option combination ordered by the distributor.
