Ha,ha... I used the faceplate of a non working factory HU and Glued buttons and knobs in place. Bought the whole thing for $15 from the junk yard.

I had a post about this issue and was thinking about doing something like what you did...great job man!

So far I've just been throwing a sweatshirt on my dash but this is better.

How do you secure it or does it just stay there?

The faceplate just fits snuggly over the Pioneer HU.
I can even drive the car with the cover installed.
No need to use velcro.
