Double Din Radios?

I'm going to replace my factory radio (cass and cd) with a double din radio. Which one do you guys like? I don't want it crazy fancy but to look stock sorta. Also, I'm going to up grade the speakers. I have 4 right? What speakers go good with metal/hardcore music? Thanks.

Don't have it installed yet, but I expect the best out of this thing. If you have an iPod and use it at all in the car, you can't beat this unit. Plus the ability to upgrade to NAV on the display (if you buy the Blackbird portable unit) is a huge plus. Also will have a bluetooth module available soon which was another huge plus for me (and what sold me on this unit vs. the Eclipse)...

There are other cheaper units out there made by Kenwood, JVC, Jensen, etc....

Some others worth considering are Eclipse and the Pioneer AVIC-Z1, but those are both $$$.

Do a Google search for Double Din.
You'll get stuff like this.

I'm looking at the Kenwood DPX-701.

I plan on just swapping the HU.
Then maybe later changing the speakers.
Check out the PAC SWI stearing wheel interfaces.

I bought a double din unit off ebay, because i wanted a deck that played minidiscs and cds, but i couldnt find any in north america (mine shipped from japan). It works well with the interior (matching blue), but it doesnt look stock thats for sure. If you want to find double din units, ebay is a good place to look as there a a few sellers from japan that sell them, and they have awsome decks accross the pond. (shipping actaully wasnt to bad, believe it or not)

I was under the impression that the Pan-Am units weren't compatible with North American radio frequencies.

Does the radio work on yours?

It only played Japanese 76-90MHz when i got it, but I found an FM Converter on ebay. The unit is inserted in the FM antennal lead and converts North America FM band of 94-108MHz to Japanese FM band of 76-90MHz. So if I want to listen to a station at 99.7 MHz, it will show up at 79.9MHz. Works on 12 volt power.
