Down Hill Assist Controler Question

I know this sounds kind of lame but I haven't had my T4R all that long and went to use the Down Hill Assist control when heading down a really slippery gravel trail a few weeks ago while in the mountains of WV... but I don't think I ever got it to work correctly.. does anyone know exactly how this system works? Thanks for the help.

Oh one more question that will probably have my man card revoked for some time but I'm sick and tired of f'n with this thing.. but how the heck do you install the cargo net??? I have messed with this thing for hours and starting to wonder if I have the right size one... It came in the back of my ride when I picked it up brand new in 07' so I assume that it is... any help would be appreciated on either topic..

Have a great day.

After an emergency meeting of the board, your Man Card has been revoked for a period of one year effective at the time of your post.

Down Hill Assist only works when you are in 4Lo. If you try to engage it when in 4Hi, the DAC indicator light near the tach will just blink. DAC, while in 4Lo, will engage the ABS brake system to keep your speed below 5mph while on a steep downhill decent. I personally don't care for it much but some people swear by it.

As for the cargo net, I have never tried to install it so I can't help you there. But I think you just hook the plastic grommets from the net to different tie down hooks in the cargo area.

Sweet.. thanks man.. Hey where in SD are you? I use to live outside Rapid City in good ol' Box Elder....

Ah yes, the armpit of RC. Lived out there when I was a kid. I currently reside in the wonderfully exciting Rapid City.

Excellent question on the DAC, I kept making the mistake of engaging it while in 4hi. Haven

Just to reinforce...the DAC only works while in 4Lo (according to the owner's manual). however, in my 08, the light will come on and stay on if you push the button, regardless of what range it's in (even in 2wd).

There are indeed two different cargo nets for the 4th gen. If you have the double-decker shelf, then it usually includes the one the lays flat on top of the shelf (the illustration for this is on a page that was in the plastic package with the net). Admittedly, I tried to hook it to the knobs on the corner panels before I decided to read the instruction paper.

I have only used the DAC when the hills get steeper than 30 deg. The most I have gone down is 40ish. I admit I'm chicken...don't want to roll down the hill end over end. As funny as the video might be I love my vehicle too much :D

But DAC does work really well...once you get past the whole brake chatter and get the b@lls to let your foot off the brake on a real steep decent, say 35 deg and a very long run! It's as bad as being at the top of a rollercoaster looking down before the drop! Overall though I find it is just too slow for the average descents. 4Lo is plenty slow and works just fine 99.9% of the time. If you are on a steep hill....and you find your self sliding sideways while the DAC is engaged...remember to try to steer GENTLY into the skid and it should track straight again.

and remember to put in neutral before shifting to 4lo otherwise it will sit there and beep at you. took me awhile to figure that out

The net that's included with the 4Runner, most likely it was in the jack compartment is the net for the double decker shelf. There are four loops which goes under the shelf, you'll see hooks along the edge of the shelf underneath where the handle area is. The two clips go behind second row seats in the the D-rings. The net is meant to keep whatever is on top of the shelf in the raise position from falling off.

The net that stretches across the back by the hatch that's envelope style is an accessory item. That one hooks on to the buttons at the bottom of the rear glass window where the tonneau cover goes and the bottom D-rings behind the wheel wells.

Well tht explains it.. I have the double decker system and never use it.. so I guess the net is worthless for me anyways.. well atleast now I know.

Thanks for all of the information on the DAC you explained it a lot better than the manual does.

Thanks again!
