Alright guys, I am setting my sight down the road on my next upgrade. I think it's going to be gears and lockers, however I know little to nothing about re-gearing our T4Rs. I would like to get a gear ratio that would put me ahead of the power curve with my larger sized (33") tires. Now, when driving on the highway at around 70-75mph my truck tends to downshift a lot to keep up the speed. I figure that while I have the rear axle apart I mine as well put an ARB locker in...no real questions on that.

I tried searching here and on toyota120 for a write up from anyone on re-gearing however haven't really seen anything that breaks it down...so to speak. Any suggestions ladies and gentlemen? Thanks!

I can say this much. Regearing a vehicle isn't something a shade tree mechanic is advised to do. There are tolerance and clearance that have to be precise or you're going to be paying parts all over again, and labor.

I can say that re-gearing with new ring and pinion setups will help the vehicle greatly. I'm preparing to do it to my F350 soon to compensate for my tires also.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the gear ratio that is recommended, but if I recall correctly there are some calculator floating around on the internet where you input your stock tire size and Toyota suplied OEM gear ratio....then based on the tire size you now have it will suggest a ratio.
