Drain and fill tranmission

Took my turn at this today. A few things to note. 1st, make sure your graduated container holds liquid... 2nd, test your cheap Chinese fluid pump prior to adding fluid. Wasted 4 qts of fluid but ordered more to do the full flush, probably do the filter also. Never could get the jumper trick to work on my 2018Turd, but the scan gauge seemed to do fine.

Bought 12 qt Toyota WS tranny fluid at the dealer for around $8.00/qt.
If you buy the parts from them, they give you 25% discount on labor, so for $90.00 had them exchange the old fluid with new.
I thought the price was well worth it. First time I ever let anyone else do anything other than warranty work.:wink2:

Did mine for the first time a few months ago. The only thing I wish I would have done is measure what came out the overflow tube with a hot transmission. That way I know what came out. It seemed like I drained more than a quart on a cold transmission.

Same here, never could get the jumper wire method to work at the OBD II plug. Simpler method is to let it idle for 15 to 20 minutes and it will be at the appropriate temp.

Used nothing but Valvoline Synthetic ATF and it's been good for 314K miles on our 2014 SR5.

Get yourself a cheap 1-gallon garden sprayer at Home Depot for $10. Replace the existing hose on the pump with some clear PVC hose with a ball valve in the middle and use this set-up to pump your ATF in.

oh brother you guys are complicated... get a funnel and a hose that'll fit to that funnel tip.. think like a saline bag at the hospital.. use gravity to feed into the fill hole

jumper pin method works but dont do it on a hot day.. it will take forever to bring temps down if it gets too hot.. it'll keep flashing fast.. happend to me once and i basically had to finish the atf measurement the next morning...

Drain it. Mark it. Dump and Wipe out jug. Fill with new. Use pump to reinject fluid through the fill.

Put in exactly what came out. Never spill a drop. Fluid check is always pointless because it’s always perfect since you can put in exactly what you just removed. I do it every 10K miles which is every other oil change.
