My Dealer ordered two new pieces for me in the Fall. I had no issue for a few months. The noise it back. I have an appointment at the dealer in a few weeks. Going to see what they do this time to fix it.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Keep us posted on what the dealer says. I have looked at a bunch of 4Runners in parking lots and those caps often look like they are coming out. I literally had to trim a little on mine to get it to snap in tightly. It should really snap down into the cowl. I could not push mine down far enough to get it to snap. This is hard to articulate, but I trimmed a tiny bit off the upper part of the hook clip on the bottom of the cap. I will try to attach a picture but it may be hard to see. I tried pointing with a pencil. Once I shaved a tiny bit off the clip mine snapped down tightly. Shaving that tiny amount allowed it to get under the cowl and snap in. If your dealer’s fix doesn’t work and you need more details let me know.

If it is useful, I found that the two push-pin fasteners that secure the cowl to the frame can loosen up over time. Especially if they’ve ever been removed. I bought a 10-pack from my dealer and that shut up my cowl noises. The new ones fit so much tighter. They may loosen up again but your corner cap might be just fine. Might check those fasteners. If the whole cowl is shifting around it might be causing the corner caps to squeak. May be worth a try??

I had a squeak that was coming from my windshield area. I ended up removing the black molding on the lower windshield. Cleaned it and wiped the dirt of the glass. It went away. Made me so much happier. I was ready to get rid of my rig because of it.
Yep that’s what mine was. I tried the rubber mud covers but that didn’t do anything. It definitely sounds like it’s a problem on some though.
Do you mean you removed and cleaned the cowling?
Looks my Dealer glued mine. Its not making noise anymore. I will see if the fix holds. The drivers side was really bad it kept popping out. This morning I have a rattle in the passenger side door..grrr.

It took my dealer 5 days to pin down the rattle coming from near the steering column (but sounded like it was outside the firewall). The culprit was the hood release cable scraping in the engine compartment. They solved it by insulating the cable with felt and tightening everything down.
Found and fixed my rattle thanks to this forum.
Had the problem since about 4K miles (now have 15K). Found the probable cause through the forum (inner fender liner). Took it to the dealer to let them fix it, even telling them the location. They never fixed it.
Took the front left wheel/tire off and found this thin, poorly designed fender liner, being held on by rattling plastic pins. You can see where the "Toyota Quality Fix" was attempted with a piece of tape (seen at the 9:00 position in the picture below). Even with the tape on it, it rattled like crazy when I moved it by hand. I have no idea why the tech didn't remove the pins/connectors and replace them (except trying to be cheap). Toyota quality? That's laughable. More like half-#ssed service. I took the whole thing off to check that the problem was fixed and it was.
(My good old iphone loves to rotate pictures. If you rotate the picture 90 degrees clockwise, that is the orientation in which it is on the car.)

This was a squeak and could be replicated by taking everything out of the glove box and slamming the glove box door shut. To think the ultimate source was the air bag is something no one would guess. Noticed sound most at lower speeds and going up or down hills.
