This is the second time I've had this weird sound occur when driving in rain. At highway speed I hear what sounds like water dripping coming from somewhere behind the front seats in the B pillars. I've never found any evidence of water entering the cab. Has anybody else ever noticed this sound?

Probably just the noise of water moving over the sunroof.

I've noticed the sound
After lots of washing, and craning my neck when I hear that sound,
I'm pretty sure it's the sound of the water washing down just past the B Pillar. There's a good volume of water washing down the jambs of the door, on the exterior of the rubber gasket.

I hear that noise too and it's driving me crazy. Well that and the brake pedal squish

Vehicles make noises. I was in a Citation not too long ago. Geez that plane's interior squeaked like crazy! 4Runner is much quieter...

I have my 6 month service coming up so I will see what they say. They will say its prob nothing and then I will be water testing and ripping door panels apart.

There it Is! It's odd because it's not a constant timed drip and is very loud. It sounds like small stones or large drops of water hitting something already wet. I think it comes from both sides but from the drivers side your ear just picks up the right side me wife was about to rip the truck apart coming home from Tahoe a few weeks ago in the rain.
Could it be something reflecting the sound or rain hitting something Outside? I don't remember hearing it in town or when stopped. Only at freeway speed.
Has anyone figured this out? The noise is driving me crazy (like above posters, only happens at high speed and with heavy rain).
This is what you're hearing! It was even more audible in every Ford Super Duty that I have owned.

I hear this sound all the time. I don't have a sunroof (17' TRD Pro), but I do have an aftermarket roof rack (used a lot of silicone on bolt holes). I always worry that water is running down those bolt holes, but I have never found water in the cab.
Like mentioned previously, I think it's water running down the jams for the rear doors.

I have heard this sound as well and I deduced that it was water pooling into larger drops as it moves across the side view mirror and then it eventually flies off and hits the rear window or the frame of the rear window. It is quite loud. Not much you can do about aerodynamics.

I heard this too the other day in a heavy rain. I assumed it was the sunroof drain line that runs down the B pillar.

Yes, I've noticed it too... Same situation... Not on my '02, but on my '15, '16 and '19 for sure.
I've even heard it after running the washer fluid for a medium to long length at speeds over 40+.
I also assumed it was coming from the gap between the following edge of the front doors and the leading edge of the rear doors...
No water intrusion at all though.

It’s been driving me crazy whenever it rains and I hear the water dripping drivers side in the rear. I’ve looked inside for any indication of water leakage but haven’t found any.
I have a 17 TRD ORP with a sunroof for data comparison.
The only thing I can think of is that due to the wipers moving more water to the drivers side, more water is running alongside the drivers side of the car and falling down the gap between the drivers door and the rear door.

I did the roof rack delete on my 2013 Trail cuz the cross bars rubbed on the lintel of the garage, bit better mpg, and it just looked sleek as sh!t. Then I had to clean up the work room where I was storing the rack and my son said it was easier to find the 4Runner with that unique rack on top, so I put it back on. Now the driver's side seat belt gets wet when it rains. Will admit I didn't do the best of jobs of cleaning the threads, was in a hurry.
Just waiting for a warm weekend when the missus or kids don't have me busy, and I am going to monkey with the screws, Loctite and or RTV to try to seal the threads; needs to be warm for it to cure. Not sure if I should chase the threads with a metric die and risk removing the black oxide. PITA clearing that crap out. Might just buy new bolts.
Point is, you might have a leak there. Just search roof rack delete and you will see the holes near the B pillar.

I still get this annoying dripping sound and have not been able to identify it. It's got to be something that is causing the water to speed up such as air movement because it's so loud. I don't know if i'd just hear water dripping on the truck when driving. I've also picked up a lovely whistle when driving at about 55+ which is mind bogglingly annoying AND the transfer case lever now vibrates and rattles.... The HELL Toyota?!?
