He must be talking about the driveshaft, yeah.

Mine moves in/out. I know, from when it fell off this year at 35 MPH!

Ok if it is the driveshaft were talkin about you won't be able to slide or move the 2 pieces. That will only happen when the the suspension flexes. It's fine

In his thread he said he had the driveline/shaft down.

So yes you should be able to slide it in and out, but it may be a little difficult.

If you pull it apart to grease it put some alignment marks on each side first, so you can put it back exactly as it was. Otherwise you could get the joints on each end out of phase, resulting in vibrations.

Oh sorry I missed that. Of course once it's dropped you should be able to slide it on it's spline. Like it was just said insure it goes back exacly how you removed it. But if it's not sliding when dropped you may have spline damage. A driveline shop may be able to repair the stock shaft but if may be cheaper to get a new custome one by the time it all said and done.

What happens if you don't put it in exactly as you took it out? I have had mine off to work on a U joint and I didn't mark it and I just slid it back on. I had vibrations before I removed it , and I still have some, so I am going to try another drive shaft out of an 85 to see if it helps.

Is it just a balancing issue or is there a way that I can tell how its supposed to be aligned?

thanks!
