Drive Shaft Cleaning

Anyone have a link to a walkthrough of a drive shaft cleaning? I have looked here and at yotatech, but havn't found one (there should be one in the recently stickied reference thread)

If you have done it before, how long did it take you, and what tools/chemicals do you need?

Mine extends when I pump grease into the slip yoke instead of it squeezing out of the slip joint, so I need to clean it out. I assume it has been ignored for years by the PO's so I figure a complete cleaning is a good idea if it is feasible for me to do in driveway (in the dead of winter).

I would wait until Spring and make it part of your spring cleaning.



It really isn't to bad. It is messy. Remove drive shaft. Use lots of rags up shop towels to clean. Once clean, inspect, replace any worn materials, regrease and reinstall.

Matt--I don't think the slip joints are supposed to leak excess grease. That's why they recommend only three or four pumps (not sure on exact number--I go by feel) because you WILL start to pressure expand the shaft if you put in too much.
