Greasing the U-joints on the 4X4 is a real hassle. Has anyone found a solution to make this easier? I remove the guard under the U-joint just in front of the transfer case that helps get a straight shot with the grease gun but it is still not easy and all the others are a tight fit. All the other grease fitting have been eliminated by Toyota so I don't know why we have these. It has been years since I have seen another vehicle with grease fittings on U-joints.

The flexible hose is a must! I am able to do all 6 fittings (4 on the U-joints, 2 on the slip yokes) without removing any heat shields, skid plates, or guards.

I just crawl under my 4R and do the fittings I can get to first, then I roll the car back about 8 inches or so, and do the rest that I couldn't reach on the first go around. With the flexible hose grease gun, it takes me about 10 minutes to do all of them.

Thanks for the suggestion JA. I use a grease gun with a flexible hose but it is not a pistol grip. My problem is getting it on the fittings straight with the limited room. Maybe I can find a grease gun fitting that has a smaller diameter as yours must have.

On this topic, are you all using two different kinds of grease (one for the u-joints and another for the slip yokes) as suggested in the manual? Or are you using the same grease on all six?

JA- Do you have the Lincoln #1134, I was thinking about getting one because the problem I'm having right now is that my $20 special from Kragen leaks out of every place it can leak....I was just wondering if the Lincoln leaks or not...

Yes, although mine is red, I believe it is the lincoln 1134. It does not leak at all. For the drive shafts I use only one of the greases specified. I go with Valvoline Part#633 Molybdenum disulfide lithium base chassis grease, NLGI No.2 .

I load my other grease gun with Green Marine Grade WaterProof Grease, for lubing the zerk fitted ES sway bar bracket bushings on my 1999. That gun has a flexible hose as well but not the pistol grip. The pistol grip is much better because it allows you to reach up with one hand and hold the nozzle on the zerk while squeezing the trigger.

Maybe thats my problem...the grease.....I had been using Mobil 1 Syn. Grease and the oil always seperated and leaked out.....I guess if it works for you I should just get what you've been using...
