i have recently purchased a 2001 2wd with 60000 miles. when you are traveling slow like parking lot speeds and slow to a stop you feel a thump like a bad mount or something. the dealer replaced the front calipers and rotors this week claiming one caliper was bad. i went to pick it up last night but you can still feel the problem but it has improved........any ideas? i am about to hand the truck back and cancel the deal.

i was about to cancel my deal at 3 today and i got a call from them at 2:50. they are telling me that the ABS computer modular is bad or malfunctioning causing the issue i have been telling them about for over 3 days. I have agreed to give them until monday to get the part and repair. I'll follow up Tuesday next week

Sounds like you are getting a little bit of brake dive & your driveline yoke is sliding in & out of the tranny a little bit causing a dunk sound. At least that is what happened on my runner, I replaced the shocks just recently & it went away all together.

bad news guys...............i just purchased a 2002 pathfinder and i gotta tell you all it is a much better street vehicle than the 4runner. not only is the inside MUCH nicer, it also handles MUCH nicer and just feels better going down the road. tHE BEST PART, WELL FOR ME IS, THAT I NOW HAVE ALMOST 60 MORE PONIES UNDER THE HOOD. this truck hauls a** and gets the same gas milage as your craprunners. The best thing that happened to me was that the dealer let me out of my deal for that POS.

that's funny, trying to compare the pathfinder to a 4runner, 4runner has more cargo space, better offroad capability, and deffinately better reliability, not to mention 10X better looks.

And that's why you don't see them go very far off-road. A 4Runner is a all around SUV that can take the beaten path while the Pathfinder can only find paths that are paved.
4Runners up the ante in the horsepower dept the next year and '02 was the first year teh Pathfinders got that horsepower and then the 4th gen Runners followed suit and then were once again on top of Nissans. So there you nerd.

well i dont live on the farm so muddin is not on my agenda. i bet most of you toy owners never even half load up the backs so better payload doesnt much matter either. so maxing out people is equal at 5 i dont give a crap about other year models only the ones i have had personal experience with. as far as exterior looks well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. my buddy has a 02 limited, leather and the works and it looks like low budget compared to my le's. overall quaility of materials and fit and finish just dont compare............sorry guys

don't know if this will help but -
I just picked mine up from the dealer today. Now granted mine is a 2004 v8 4wd, but the tech said "4runners are notorious for this". All they did was remove the driveshaft, clean and lubricate it, and re-install it. Clunking in mine is gone !!
Check for TSBs, thats how I found what it was!

THE CLUNK YOU HEAR IS FROM EXTRA SLACK IN THE DRIVELINE. GET A GREASE GUN AND PUMP UP THE DRIVESHAFT WITH THE NIPPLE NEAR THE REAR U-JOINT (NOT ON THE U-JOINT) UNTILL A SMALL AMOUNT OF GREASE OVERFLOWS FROM THE SEAL. YAY, THE CLUNK IS GONE!

1st off- super glad I wasn't around when this thread was new cause people like that just piss me off
2nd- My 4runner does the same thing. Toyota techs have told me exactly what Liny has except I've also had them tell me they need to drop the driveshaft to get a good lube in there because the nipple doesn't get it all... Your thoughts? 2 dealers have told me this

Yuck! It just started so I have not had my Mechanic take a peek at it yet. I suppose I may go and see if I can bum a grease gun off of someone soon as it is getting worse and using 4wd is pretty much essential here in winter.
