Driveline Thunk - Everybody Call Toyota!!

My drivline thunks now and then as well but to be honest I just ignore it and figure it still makes less noise then my old Dodge so I guess Im doing ok. 
......... The darn thing runs so good I guess I don't care about some little "Thunk"

Yes, everyone who has this annoying problem call - and maybe, hopefully, Toyota will take notice & offer a TSB fix like they did for the 4Runner's sister, the Lexus GX470.

I was reading in one of the toyota books labeled "Toyota's guide to better service" about little problems cars have and they call these problems idiosyncrasies. Then the book defines an idiosyncrasy as a peculiar habit or mannerism. "Its the nature of the beast" was another way it was described. It goes on and talks about how fancy European cars have them too. When 15,000 mecahnical parts and pieces are assembled they don't all behave in precisely the same manner. Blah Blah Blah... The book states that an idiosyncrasy cannot be repaired.

My 4Runner does this every time I stop and it drives me crazy!!! It has been doing it ever since I bought it. I usually ignor it, but my fun meter is pegged out and I would like it to stop. So I am going to call. Toyota needs to do the responsible thing and step up. They are all about Quality Control so lets see it!

I would be willing to bet that Toyota knows what the noise is and where it's comming from this is not a dumb company. I just think it my be something that is not an easy fix and they figure it's not harming anything so they ignore it.

Toyota already knows about problem, its not a cheap fix, thats why they are not issueing the TSB for the 4runner. I think I read somewhere, the TSB cost about $1500 to $2000. You take that number and multiply by the number of 4runners that has been sold so far, you will then understand why Toyota will not have a TSB for the 4runner.
Another problem is that Toyota is having problem with the production of these parts. There have been a waiting list for these parts for almost a year now for the GX. The parts are in such shortage that even some of the new GX dont have these parts installed from the factory.

KEEP AFTER TOYOTA ON THIS!!!
I did get a call from the local service manager. He said that things may be moving forward on this, and he was running some things down with the regional guy. I'm also communicating with a technician at the same dealership (who frequents this forum & has a 4Runner). So perhaps something will move forward - IF WE ALL KEEP AFTER TOYOTA!!!
In the mean time, I recently tried synthetic grease (Mobile 1) on the zerks, and applying some directly (with my finger) on the spline joint where it slides in & out. A thousand miles later, it seems to have greatly helped. BUT, this is not much different from every other time I've lubed it, so we'll see over time what happens (this would be like attempt method #15).

Since I left my first post on this thread I went out and bought the mobile 1 synthetic pink grease, and crawled under the 4runner and pumped grease into the zerks the problem has gone away for now. I still called toyota. We shall see what happens in the future.
