Driver foot well gets wet when it rains??? HELP!

I have a 2006 sr5 4x4 which I bought used a year ago. There was a small wet spot at my feet once in a while but it was never this bad (and I didnt think much of it because in the jeep I used to drive condensation would sometimes gather in the ac and drip out on my feet). I also dont have any mats, just the carpets (and havent yet decided to cut up my carpets to figure out what it is).

When ever it rains, or is wet outside, the carpet at my feet when driving gets wet and damp. it starts out small around the brake pedel, but with all the rain last week it has spread to almost the whole carpet around my feet (except the small raised area to the right just in front of my seat.

now it is getting the musky smell from the damp carpet and I know it is not ac related because I have not used it much in the last week. Im not sure there is a hole or a crack under my feet letting water up which gets absorbed by the carpet; or someone sugested it could be a bad seal on the windshield.

I hopped the curb today to get a look underneath and could not find anything relating to holes or cracks, but i cant say I would have an eye for it either.

Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it? if so, do you know if it might be covered by the toyota warranty? Either way my next step will probably be just to take it into toyota and have them look at it????

I had a similar problem in another 4runner and I came to find out that someone had installed an aftermarket something, that had long been removed by another owner. The problem was the hole that had been drilled in the firewall to get the cord to the battery..


Every time it rained, water would make its way in.

I suggest looking up at your firewall area and see if something isn't torn or a hole there...

I would check the grommet that your hood cable(I think) goes through. I know I used this when I put my sat antenna on the roof but siliconed the hole shut. Also I am wondering if maybe your windshield was replaced at some point.

Im also thinking of hosing off the windshield to make sure there are no leaks there and it is in fact coming from underneath

Look at the bright side. At least you just have a wet carpet.

Friend of mine had a similar issue on his Tahoe, except the water dripped on the transmission dipstick, got in the tranny and trashed it...
