Driver side rear brake = super hot

Just recently I noticed my driver side rear brake getting super hot, you can actually smell it when you get out of the truck. I tried cycling the e brake (mayb stuck?) and I can't determine the sequence of events that cause it. It doesn't happen every day either. Is there something special on this brake I should examine? Any suggestions?

When you brake, does it sound like a plane flying over head? The rear pads don't have indicators, and you may be on worn pads.

May be time for a caliper rebuild if its sticky. Or, you may just have dead pads and your piston is having to travel way out, increasing the chances for it to not want to retract just right (sticking)

It appears their is plenty of pad, 75%+ material remaining. Do the real calipers have traditional slide pins? Guess I will pull the caliper this weekend and check it.

I had this problem when my ebrake "failed". It didn't completely fail but one of the pins that the shoe pivots on broke so one of the shoes was continuously rubbing on the drum.

If the face (part that the pad contacts) of the disc is hot then I would say stuck caliper, if the center portion (drum) of the disc is hot, I'd look into failed ebrake.

The e brake doesn't work off the pads. There are shoes inside the rotor. You have to pull the caliper off to slide the rotor to expose the shoes.

Sounds like a sticking caliper.
