Driver side running board... won't light

I had the same issue with my 04 Limited. One of the lights on the drivers side quit working. I also replaced the bulb (hard to get at with my thick fingers) to no avail. The dealer said that there was an issue with the wiring of the running board and quoted me $500 to replace (!).
Needless to say I have been living without that one light for a couple of years now.
Let us know if you obtain any further information.

OK... found the problem. There is a white connector under the vehicle (located around the middle of the running board) that powers it.
The wires coming out from under the vehicle have come loose from it's plug/connector. The running board side is fine. I simply need to get that fixed.

OK so I am resurrecting this because similar issue... but mine I am sure is electrical...... both lights are out on the drivers side. Bulbs are good. Volt meter is showing a -3.6 on one socket end and a -7.6 on the other socket.
The main plug that goes into the rail reads 12 so I would think there is the 12 volts needed -- I am confused why the voltage is wonky on each end socket?
I dont know much about volt meters, but I think I am using it right.
Passenger side works fine. Anyone have some advice on helping me troubleshoot this?

Usually if you get a negative reading as in -3.6 and -7.6 you have the voltage meter test leads reversed, i.e. red lead to ground and black lead to positive/hot, but I do agree that I think you should be getting 12 volts at the sockets, so if you had the test leads reversed you should be reading -12 volt.

Ah, good info. I did check the working passenger side to test my meter skills, and a working bulb socket reads 12 (or -12 depending I guess).
So that means something in the driver bad rail is failed from the main socket to the two bulb sockets... Do I need to remove the rail and start tearing it apart? Could it be the female side of the main recepticle since the male power from the car (to the rail) reads 12.
Could dirty contacts cause this 3.6 at one bulb socket and 7.6 at the other?
If I let the lights go out, it does disappear to zero I think.... so they are getting SOME voltage when they are activated on the bad drivers side, they just dont get to 12 volts.

Yes a bad connection at the connector to the running board could defintiely give a low reading at the blub sockets, it very well could have some corrsion where the 2 connectors come together or the metal connectors inside the plastic could be spread open too much and not making a good connection, try pushing/pulling/twisiting on the main connection and see if that gets you a better reading.
