Hey people:

I have a 03 SR5 4WD and have noticed an irritating problem with the front seat of my 4Runner. I have one of those levers that you can pump to make the seat raise up. My wife uses it when she drives my runner. However, depending if I am offroading or my driving dictates that I raise the seat up to see out of the truck better, ive noticed that the darn seat will not stay in the position that I have put it in, aka it drops a little bit. I can tell that it does this because if I put it down all the way and pump it up 3 times, drive for a day or two and then put it back down, it only takes like 1 1/2 pumps to put the seat back down to the floor. Being a scientist, i tested my hypothesis another way to make sure that I wasn't crazy. I pumped the seat up 3 times and then immediately pumped it back down and it did take 3 pumps to put it down. My theory is that it is dropping down on me for some reason. I am only 190 lbs so I don't think it is b/c of my weight but it is irritating as heck.

Anyone else have this problem?

I crank mine to the highest position (the seat cushions seem a little low for me) and it stays there without moving at all.

I don't since I always have the seat all the way lowered. I do remember someone here, many months ago, complaining about the same thing.

There is a TSB to replace the handle with another which has a slightly different shape.

You might be able to get it replaced under warranty.

The TSB is BO013-04 dated June 15, 2004, your dealer should have it
and the handle replacement is under warranty.

I'm trying to picture how a new handle would have an affect on the problem. Could someone explain, please?

The original handle was made too high and when you sit down on the seat the
handle would be pressed and the seat adjustment changed.

The new handle has more slope too it so the front part is lower.

So Cliff, is this the solution to the manual seat problem? Or are there really two issues.

I've read about the seat bottom not staying in place. I've also read about the seat being loose.

I've been trying to decide if I need to purchase a Limited model to avoid these seat problems.

The TSB only fixes the problem of the seat adjusting
when you get in the T4R.

It does not fix the loose lower cushion problem or the
latching problem that makes the seat go clank on corners.

For the seat cornering problem I found that if you scoot back
and forth you can get the seat rails to latch.

One of these days I am going to get to a upholstery shop
and have some more padding added to the seat bottom.
