Driveshaft Maintenance

Is there any required maintenance for driveshafte besides the zerk fittings?

I have a "whine" from the engine that sounds like a supercharger whine, but only when the car is in gear, and only when accelerating. Before you guys say use the search button, I have. I have read 100 threads here and YT with guys going back and forth between torque converter and driveshaft.

everyone's solution seems to be greasing the 8 zerks. that didn't work for me. I greased them the day I got the car and cleaned and re-greased just to make sure, and I still have the whine. Any suggestions?

My u-joint failure was only noticeable under acceleration and maintenance throttle, maybe it's that.

Do you have any vibration under acceleration too?

there is vibration as the engine revs before shifting into 2nd and into 3rd gear. Not a vibration that effects the whole truck I can just feel it in the shifters.

how much did a new U Joint run you?

Never heard of a ujoint whining.. When they go out they tend to make a horrible noise and cause vibrations.

That doesn't sound the same. I mostly had vibration at high speeds, so maybe you have something different going on.

Have you check the fluid level of your TC?

I had a similar whine from my alternator.

Check with automotive stethoscope - if you don't have one - use a wooden dowel to 'listen' for your engine noises. :)

U-joints do not whine. I'd say alternator, transmission or rear end. Does it change with vehicle speed or engine RPM? Might need to check fluids.

Check under the hood. Maybe someone was nice and tossed a supercharger under there for you.

There is a constant whine when accelerating in Drive in 1st and 2nd gear, as it shifts to 3rd it stops.... Transmission was just "serviced" before i bought something got f'ed up. I drove it before and after the "service" and it did not have the whine prior. Tranny Fluid is full, i checked it after a ~15min drive.

Drain and refill? what other options do i have?

i was searching 4runner transmission noises on Youtube and i came across this video of a F250 i think. The noise on my 4runner is identical except i only experience it when accelerating, and I can't hear it if the windows are up.
