Driving my 1st gen across country...Help in Tennessee?

Hey all...my job rocks. I curently live in TX, and have been working in MD (between Baltimore and DC) for the last couple of months...and will be there until February, or maybe later. I flew in on Wednesday after learnign that my wife was in labor with our 3rd boy. So after being here a few days...with another week of leave to go...I have been enjoying my freshly motored 1st-gen. I realize...I can't be without my Runner for that long, and I need to put some miles on the freshly rebuilt 22rte (priorities, people). So...I cancelled my flight back to Baltimore, and will be driving the 1st-gen across country, back to work, starting this Friday.

That brings me to you. I was hoping to meet up with someone in the Knoxville, TN area on Friday night, and bum a room (or couch) off of ya for the night (I'll buy the beer), to resume my cross-country journy the next morning. Yes...I can afford a hotel...it's not a money issue. I just want to make this a true road trip, like back in the day...minus the sleeping in the back of the Runner. The people here on T4R are like a fraternity of guys that just haven't all met yet...so I figured I'd ask.

Really though...my only concern is that the stock ECU doesn't play nice with the freshly rebuilt, bored out motor. It's nothing major...just a little hesitation in a certain spot in the power band...but it's annoying. I replaced and adjusted the TPS, and ran some injector cleaner through it to give it the smoothest throttle possible...it's good...but not great.

Who did you have rebuild the motor?

The rebuild was done through Farris Racing Engines in Springtown. I've known the family for years, taught a few of their kids. I know they do a great job. The install was done by a ASE world class master tech...taught 3 of his kids. The problem is somewhere in something we didn't change out...and I'm getting word back now that the stock ECU can easily handle such a small increase in displacement. I'm thinking it may be an injector...dunno...

I'm looking into a reboot for my tired 22re. I think with your recommendation I'll give them a shout.

Sounds good. They do precision work...they mainly build custom racing engines, and rebuild stuff as it comes in as well. I'd also suggest an engine rebuild kit from "engnbldr", or they can order everything themselves. Last, ARP head studs. They are expensive...but if you're going to pay the coin to rebuild a motor...
