DRO-T4R Thread ('17 Off Road Premium, KDSS, some other stuff)
Hi guys. First, I want to say thanks for all of the info you guys have provided. This forum was a huge help as I went through the decision process in buying and setting up the new 4Runner.
I'm not calling this a "build" thread, since I'm not really building anything - rather just spending money on a few mods a hundred other 5th gen owners have already done. But I'll try to keep it up to date as things change, and add pics as we explore in the new Runner.
Really quick background - We owned a 2007 V8 Limited 4runner, excellent condition with 80k miles on it, and a 2007 Audi S-line A4 (6-speed, 3.2l 6 cyl.), also in excellent condition, with 53k miles on it. But I'm a car guy, used to race in PCA, SCCA, NASA etc. And I was getting the itch for a new vehicle. Decided that given where we live (in a tiny mountain town in the middle of nowhere), a new "toy" car didn't make sense. So decided on a new 4Runner.
Intent was to sell the 4th gen 4Runner. But after giving it some thought, my wife and I decided it made more sense to keep both 4Runners and sell the Audi. We are constantly hauling bikes, paddle boards, camping gear and towing an R-Pod, so having 2 vehicles that can do it all will be really nice. (If anyone wants a deal on a really nice Audi, let me know!).
The new truck just turned 500 miles, and loving it so far.
As it sits today:
2017 TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS
Toytec 25BOSS lift, installed by the dealer before it left the lot
TRD Pro grill
BFG KO2s - 275/70 17s on Gunmetal Stealth Custom Series SR8s
N-Fab nerf bars
Some other little stuff, like de-badged sides, Nox-Lux black out kit on the back, Lamin-X fog covers.
1-up USA bike rack
Still thinking about blacking out the front and rear valances, and have a Gobi rack and ladder on the way. May ultimately replace nerf bars with true sliders, but jut wanted something kid-friendly for now, for my 7 year old daughter.
