Drop in replacment subwoofer? Help

I'm wanting to add a little more bass to my stock JBL 10 speaker setup. I think I can replace the stock JBL subwoofer with a drop in replacement like a JL 8W0 and still power it from the factory amp given the stock enclosure measurements and power requirements of the 8W0. I've seen the idea thrown around but nobody has said if they had completed it and if they did, how it sounds? This seems to be the cheapest solution to add a bit wider range to the stock system and not have it visually noticable. Any help out there?

The eD 9kv.2 sub I have is a about 3/8" too deep to fit in the stock orientation. I have mounted it in the inverted position. I tested it on a home amp and it sounds good so far!

The JL 8w0 might be a better choice physically but it won't work with the stock amp as it is a single voice coil only. I believe the stock amp is setup for DVC 2ohm.

I will have pics once I make more progress. If I have time, I will try my eD sub with the stock amp.
