dropping headliner...grab handles?????

I am trying to drop my headliner, and have come across and impossible obstacle.

the screws in the grab handles WILL NOT COME OUT! They are the only thing stopping me from coming out. I do not have an impact driver, I have tried very slowly turning the driver, I have tried slowly turning the driver and simultaneously slamming a hammer in the back of it. I'm just stripping the brass headed-loctite sealed screws....ingenious idea...

Take a long extension, put it on the head of the bolt and smack the extension a few times. The shock from smacking it should break it loose.

All else failing, maybe some left handed drill bits perhaps.

Buy a hand-held impact driver. It's about $25. I don't use mine more than maybe twice per year, but that one time I use it, it is priceless. I even carry one with me in the toolkit now.

You can use a soldering iron to heat the screw and break the thread lock seal. Like others said, an impact screwdriver is your friend here.

For some tasks, a hand-held impact driver is even better than an air impact driver. When you strike the back of the hand-held one, it is twisting but it is also forcing the bit deeper into the screw head. That helps avoid stripping out the head.

Ditto! I bought a hand impact driver because my air impact driver wouldn't budge some screws on a Honda motorcycle without stripping the heads of the screws. The hand impact driver works like a charm.

Mine absolutely would not come out under any circumstance. What I had to do was to take my dremmel-knockoff and cut a long, thick groove for a large flat head bit and then was able to get it out with a power drill.

Do yourself a favor and DON'T put the same screws back in. Get some metric hex screws from Lowe's or Home Depot. I think they were M10's, but might have been M12's. Just bring the old screw and match.

I got a drill bit larger than the head of the screw and drilled the head off. Once the head was off and I was able to take the handle off there was enough of a nub sticking out to grab with vice grips and spin out. Then I took the screw to the local hardware store and matched up the screw with some new ones.
