Dropping Trans pan worth it?

I want to flush my transmission this weekend and wanted to know if you guys think it's worth it to change the filter and clean out the pan.

If you do think it's worth it, is it better to just use Permatex Right stuff or I also have a fel-pro rubber gasket that came with the filter?

Just looking to do this right and not pay the stealer to do it.

I dropped the pan on my 2004 4runner when I flushed the trans. I used the gasket that came with the filter.

When i dropped the pan, the filter did not look bad at all (it was just the screen). It was not very dirty. However, the magnets at the bottom of the pan were coated with the superfine shavings/sludge. I was glad I opened it up and cleaned off those magnets.

There's no sense in swapping in clean fluid and leaving a dirty filter in place.

I did it a couple of weekends ago. Dropped the pan, replaced the filter and just used the gasket that came with the filter. I believe it was a Hastings brand.

The manual says a drain and fill is 2.1 qts, but it's actually more like 4 or 4.5 qt...maybe even 5. I can't seem to find a straight answer on that. A lot of people on here seem to do full flushes and use 16 qts, but I can't figure out what it is for a simple drain and fill. So far I've put in 5 and it still doesn't seem right and it doesn't even show up on the dipstick when it's hot...but when it's cold, it says it's at the max. So I don't know. I'm interested to know what you find out.

someone here posted bolts need to be torqued 10 or 20 inch/lb more with rubber gasket than with FPIG Permatex. Search and confirm. You HAVE to use an inch/lb torque wrench. No way to do it properly by hand.

Depends on mileage. If its up there, might as well replace the screen. I'd spend the extra for an oem filter since you're not replacing it very often. And I went with the rubber gasket from autozone instead of the goop, and its been leak free for many thousands of miles.

I just did it this week,fallow the sticky on it,he got it perfect,my advise is torque the drain plug to 15ft lbs,not 20 like is posted in other areas and put it in before you put the pan back on,just to make sure it don't strip.
I use toyota fipg,I also let it drain for 3 days while I waited on parts and got almost 8-8.5 qts drained,I than used another 8 using the pump one out and one in method,I never saw any bad looking fluid pumped out,it was all red.
