Drove a 2010 4Runner

Hi all, Been lurking for some time thought I'd finally register to contribute with a post on my first drive of a sr5 2010 4runner. A friend works for a local dealer and they just got them in for training sales people. He was cool enough to let me to take a quick drive when he saw my excitement of seeing the new Runner. Coming from a 94 Second Gen runner to say its a big difference is an understatement. Size is much larger, power, what can I say no comparison. I love the little video screen in the rear view mirror that turns on when you shift into reverse. Also like the auto trans which also has sport shifting +/- via the gearshift. Overall nice truck. Sorry no pics, didnt want to get my friend in trouble for letting me drive the new company truck since it only had 35 miles on it.

Welcome aboard! From a 1994 to 2010, there should be a BIG difference. Did you take it out on the freeway or just from A to B?

Both my friend and I were at our sons baseball practice which we both help coach so I kind of had to steal some time away to drive it. So with all the afternoon traffic I just took it around the neighborhood to see how she drove, only put on 3 miles or so. Interior is real nice, looks more upscale than my 2006 Tacoma which is my other truck. Looks real nice, Its tempting to consider upgrading the 2nd gen., probably all part of the plan for letting me drive it, haha. Call me a sucker!

Thanks for the report. Did you notice if it had a mast antennae on the right front fender? Did it have a navigation system?

I'm interested as well. I assume he doesn't' have NAV since the backup camera was in the rear view mirror.

i saw it yesterday the first one was getting prepped at a local dealer i know,
anyways my first impression was a fat person with skinny wimpy legs and a sagging ass.
the dame truck is big and as these thin ass tires, i was shocked they were 245 i thought they were 195, then the ass saggs just like the sequioa

In all the photos I have seen it appears as if the rear end sits slightly higher than the front. If it was sagging, then there must be something wrong with it.

It did have the mast antenna, not too cool for a 30K+ vehicle. No Navi also, most vehicles on Hawaii dont have Navi, on an Island, where we going to go?

What is a mast antenna?
Is it the "shark fin" on top of the vehicle?

Nope. It is a several foot long wand that sticks up from the right front fender, like cars used to have 20 years ago. Remember when the neighborhood hoodlums would go around breaking off people's antennae?

We used to beat the hell out of each other with them when I was a kid.

I think the "shark fin" is only on navi and possibly XM equipped 4Runners. It's the case with most Lexus cars.

Wasn't it used in 80's cars? Using this type of antena is like returning back to transistor radio in the age of microprocessor.

"Was it a fixed mast antenna or a power retractable mast antenna? "

Unfortunately it was the fixed mast antenna, a throw back from the 70's and 80's. Thank God Toyota finally upgraded and didnt leave in the 8-track player.
