Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

I'm glad to see this still going. My son was only 3 months old when I posted this. He is now 3 years old with a 17 month old little brother. We spend every warm weekend on the water and I think about the information above everytime.

good post, where did you source that from?
I don't remember now, but I most likely saw it on TheMalibuCrew.com.

4Run4YourLife,

Thanks for posting. Good stuff.

The source seems to be the first link which references a collaborative source at the second.

Seems legit, thanks for finding a source.

Bumpity bump as a reminder and for anyone new who hasn't seen this before!

I'm glad you kept this alive.

Reading this article brought back some horrific memories for me. I can't emphasize this enough. I was cleaning our pool one afternoon and my then 3yr old son was driving his pedal car around the pool. I was brushing down the walls when I heard our 13 yr old springer spaniel barking. I thought, "that's odd",she hasn't barked in a long time cause her voice had gone. I glanced over and she was leaned over the far end looking as if she were about to jump in. She looks at me, looks back at the pool, forces out a hoarse bark, looks back at me. It was then I realized I didn't see my boy. Then it just clicked. Mind u this whole process took a few seconds. I ran to the deep end and caught a glimpse of color as I approached. The color of the pedal car! I dove in and there he was standing upright on the bottom, arms stretched upwards, staring straight up. I got him to the surface and he puked water in my face and coughed. I knew he was going to be ok. After that I broke down and cried. I was shaking like a leaf. It had happened right under my nose. Silently. Quickly. If it weren't for our beloved dog... I don't even want to go there. As I write this I'm tearing up. It was a near tragedy. We prided ourselves on being ultra vigilant. Never leaving the boys unattended for even ONE second. And yet it almost happened. Please, please, please be vigilant! Especially with little boys! They slip outside, they stack stuff to climb over pool fences! As a part-time pool tech I saw it all.

This is the stuff of nightmares. It was hard to read, but it is a necessary reminder of how easily the unthinkable can happen. Thanks for sharing, man.

Holy SHIT Paul!! Quatre Coureur
This is what exactly happened to me all the way down to the freaking dog
( golden retriever) telling my dad that I drove into the pool. He was outside rinsing the deck with the hose, as I was riding in my big wheel around the pool, only difference is I stayed holding onto my big wheels peddling or trying to peddle I was told. Of course I don't remember its just the story being told to me but my god how freaky similar a story, made a freaking chill go through my body!! Just weird really really weird!! Same age and my god it's weird, sorry man just I felt like I was ready a post from my father who would always tell the story to me of course he made sure to tell me I was still cranking the big wheel like nothing was wrong, but he would always go silent after telling me, I know why it was because he was fighting back the tears.
Thank God for our four legged friends
My buddy says it's no coincident that dog is god spelled backwards.....

I'm so glad u are here Tim. Sons bury fathers. Not the other way around. Your father, and all loving fathers, would be consumed by grief. It's not a coincidence that our dogs played a role. I truly believe there is a special place in heaven for a creature who loves us so unconditionally. They say The Lord works in mysterious ways... We both know this to be true because we experienced it.

Wow Quartre Courer. I'd still shake and tear up writing or thinking about that. The dog deserved a steak.

OP thanks for the reminder. My two sons just became lifeguards and I meant to find that essay for them to read. It's so true.

A very early memory for me is when I was three we were at our club pool and a boy who was ten was found at the bottom and pulled out. I remember the ambulance driving up on the grass and them scooping him up. Our moms were friends. He didn't make it.

Yes thank you, and same goes for your son. It still amazes me the similarities of the situation, I'm sure other have read the story and maybe not think so but I can't excuse the chill that traveled through my body while reading it. Now days I feel at home in the water, I'm part fish.
