Rickashay's Weekend Wheeling Pics.

What an awesome weekend is all I can say! A lot of adventures and a VERY unexpected incident....

This weekend me and some friends gathered for some wheeling/camping. It was so good to see some familiar faces and especially to see my old truck out on the trail (the black pickup)

We spent most of Saturday on the Racehorse Pass trail. It provides some unreal views of the valleys below and some cool traverses along the side of a shale bank. Unfortunately, were turned back due to seasonal close-age. We heard from a ATV'er that past the sign/BC border that the trail becomes quite technical. So it's definitely on the list for next season when it opens up again. On our way back down however we encountered something weird...

There was a man laying on the side of the trail, and it looked like his eyes were shut. It was a very peculiar spot for someone to be taking a rest; as the trail was a cut road with a very steep bank down into the trees on our passenger side and the forest rising up beside us on driver's. I was in the lead of our small group and grabbed the FRS to tell the group I was going to get out and check on the man. Before I could fully stop and get out, Geoff was already walking up to the man. I saw him waving his arms and saying something like "hello, are you ok?!" repeatedly. As I approached the edge where the man was laying, I noticed out of the corner of my eye, a vehicle rolled over on it's side/roof with an accompanying utility trailer. The truck (a new Landrover) and trailer were roughly 50ft. down the side of the mountain and pinned up against some of the trees. After I tied the two things together, and realized what was going on, I went to check on the man who had now been risen from his dormant state. Geoff seemed to have woken him from his sleep or unconscious state. The four of us gathered around him as we tried to make sure that he was in fact OK, and try to establish what kind of health or condition the man was in. He seemed to be making some sense of the incident after our probing questions, and seemed to be in decent condition considering the crash. He had a swollen ankle and a few bumps and bruises but, externally, appeared OK. After asking him several times, if he wanted us to take him down to the hospital, he refused repeatedly. He seemed adamant on staying put. Something wasn't adding up in our eyes but we took the GPS coordinates down and decided that we wouldn't force him to do anything. We told him we would hurry down the mountain until we had cell phone reception and call for help. He seemed happy with that decision so on we left him with some bottles of water and hurried down to call emergency services.

I wish I had a proper ending to the story but that is really where it ends. We spent a couple hours waiting/on the phone trying to explain where we were and where the man and the accident scene were. At points it appeared as if we were speaking a foreign language because no one could really get it straight where to go and find him. The ambulance and police truck finally met up with us and we told them that the ambulance wouldn't be able to make it up the trail with its low ground clearance. We parted ways with the police and medics and that is where the story rests. Hopefully we find out more in the coming days...

Seeing something like this really does make you appreciate the need for basic off-road and wilderness education of some sort. Without jumping to conclusions it seems like the man maybe shouldn't have been out there and doing what he was doing and in the state he was doing it in. It almost makes one mad, as these are the issues that plague us 4x4'ers and give us such a bad name.

Anyways, Props to everyone out there who wheels responsibly and attempts to break that stereotype!!!

Enough with the typing, on with the PICS.

Thanks, and it was!!

Great pics! That does look like the coolest camp spot ever!

Seriously so cool, and in the photo, you can't see the waterfall pouring into the pool of water! Come wheeling up here and this can be our base camp! lol

Damn dude that trail looks awesome, beautiful area. Great pics!

Thanks a lot!

Yah, I did not make it evident enough in the write-up but the man in the rollover wreaked of booze. Definitely drunk. I dont feel sorry for him at all, wheeling and drinking is f***ing re****ed.

Yah, that Tacoma is a sleeper. Fox 2.5's with external resi's front and Fox 2.0's rear. All Pro expedition leafs. ARB locker soon to come. Looks very plain and simple but a REAL nice DD!!!

Great pics! I really wish we had more areas like that around here.

Thanks, so much good terrain out a little farther west! Come visit!

that 4th shot with the tree reflecting on the Taco's windsheild, awesome

haha thanks, I really like that one too.
