DTRL question

i have seen how to add or turn off dtrl but i have not seen always on. i am wanting to have them on with the headlights. anyone have any info on this?
I like the fog light mod and I do t think that this should be to hard to do.

Edit:I'm trying to make my dtrl always on then I'm going to make my front marker lights clear to make it look more like a normal dtrl. If I don't have dtrl always on then I would not have a front marker light when the headlights are on

anyone want to try to do an always on dtrl? i know J.A. has made a comment on it in the past but no one has ever done this. i know a lot of the 5th gen guys have done this on their trucks and i think it would look cool on our 4th gens. im just not one to be the first to do it because im not big on wiring diagrams

Are you not wanting them to be turn signals? I have mine always on but they are also the front turn signal like yours, but yours are up in the headlight correct?
 
Side question... do all 4Runners have DTRL capability? I apparently don't have them, but I see a lot of 4Runners with them and like the look/function. Can mine be activated somehow?

If they didn't come from the factory, I believe you would need to replace your turn signal relay with a DTRL capable one as that is what controls this function. Note it is DRL if you are trying to search it.

goal is to have them operate as if headlights are not on, so you have on the headlights/fogs/dtrl or headlights/highbeams/dtrl at the same time

example of this on a 5th gen

i think its a tech stream option that can be turned on for the 06+

Sorry for the blurry pic and I know yours in 09' but like this? I can have headlights on/off, fogs on/off, DRL on/off all independent of each other.

If you did the DRL Mod with the on/off switch, all you need to do is run a ground wire to the side of the switch that is going to DRL relay. When switch is off no DRL, when switch is on DRL always on because the ground overrides the headlights turning them off. you could add another switch to the ground wire if you want to have off, factory on, and always on.
 
If you want them to simply be on ALL the time (with ignition on) with no control of them, you could simply locate the light green with red wire from position 12 at the DRL / flasher relay, cut it, & connect THAT (not the end that leads to the ECU) end to ground.

"How to convert DRLs to manual
For those of you who want to control when your DRLs are on or off all you need to do is follow the procedure in the post above and then attach a switch between pin 12 of the flasher and ground. When the switch is closed, the DRLs will come on. Otherwise, they will be off. With a 3 position switch you can select between, on, off, auto.

Common - Flasher pin 12
pos 1 (off) - No connection
pos 2 (on) - Ground
pos 3 (auto) - Body ECU (via the green/red wire that used to be on pin 12)"
 
so i have had people tell me green and red wire goes to ground and some have told me positive. can anyone confirm. trying to do dtrl on with headlights
 
Quick question about Daytime Running Lights.

When your DRL are on, do your tail lights turn on too?

I have an 07 Limited without DRL but will be adding them soon (going to get the DRL Flasher Relay soon) and would ideally like to have tail lights on all the time. Will installing the new DRL Flasher Relay give me full time tail lights on?

No, only the DRL will be on.

You could leave your parking lights on all the time as they will turn off 30 secs after you press the lock button on your key fob or immediately if you press it twice once you exit the vehicle.

So sorry about Georgia, better luck next year. Here is something for you to relive the moment.
