DA is faster but if your not paying attention it could burn through the clearcoat. Another benefit is that it gets the fine scratches and blemishes out better than if you were to do it by hand. It’s a personal preference and I actually do both depending on the situation. Do what your most comfortable with is my advice.

AP much faster. I think more detail can be achieved by hand if you have the patience and muscle!

I don't see how you could burn through the clear coat with something like a Porter Cable 7424XP.

My polisher has saved me a ton of time, and it has still taken me a full weekend to detail my truck on a couple occasions.

I do most all of it with a DA Polisher, that being said, after getting a nice shine, I have hand waxed to make sure I don't miss any spots, but that's rare in comparison to just polishing the whole thing with the DA and then waxing/sealing with it too.

I wonder how many people who answer by hand, are answering so, because they do not have a DA, or because they haven't used one before. I would have just said by hand up until I used a DA and now I really won't go back to trying to polish by hand.

With the introduction of the easy to apply hybrid ceramic coatings, it's silly to "wax" a car by hand. Especially one as big as the 4Runner.

Take your pick, prep as normal, spray on after you wash, and rinse it off. BAM, 6 months of protection with 99% less effort that applying by hand, hazing over, remove by hand.
2 mins to apply vs 30 minutes at the minimal.

I understand polishing for most vehicles that don't leave pavement, but for a 4R?..
You can "polish" (barely) by hand, but most pinstripping won't be moved by hand polishing--you'll need machine polishing (Like the porter cable) at least.

Having done it by hand before… it’s a lot of work, enough so that I rather buy something or pay someone else altogether.
