What wax to use on a car already losing a clear coat

I'm fighting a losing battle with the elements. When I bought my 4runner it already had clear coat peeling under the windows.

It's a losing battle once the clear coat starts peeling, but now I have my clear coat getting cracky in places that were fine before, like the fender or the B pillar. It's very slight for now.

At first I used NU Finish, but that stained trim and didn't last very long. Then I went to McGuires carnauba wax, which was extremely time consuming to apply, involved a lot of prep, but lasted a little longer.

For the last year I've used Hybrid Solutions ceramic spray, it does a very good job beading the water (lasts long too and easy to apply), but when it rains and I park outside I get a camo pattern because the drops of water leave stains. I'm also thinking that the spray isn't doing so well against sun damage, since the clear coat became compromised in 2 other places despite me applying the spray.

I purchased 2k clear coat and paint matched rattle can, but until then I need my paint to not fall to pieces. What is the best product I can use to protect my paint from outside elements?

(I'm sure this has been asked, but it was mainly on the 5th gen one)

You can't. If your clear coat is burnt off. It's Truly best to sand it down primer paint and reclear it.

You have to sand down the clear while it's still there.


I am not sure if y2k clear will be compatible with the clear that's on there. As it's not compatible with a lot of things. If you get a reaction with the old clear and new. It can make things worse.

I plan to do what JZiggy did on his 4runner. Sand down to metal, put new paint on, and then do the 2k clear coat.

I'm just trying to stop the clear coat from coming up new place. I understand that there is nothing I can stop it from spreading in the places that are already compromised.

Ok. Then knock the loose stuff off and coat it with clear. I wouldn't even think of using any wax if your are planning to repaint it.
