Dual Exhaust

Anybody have dual exhaust on their 3rd gen? If so can you post pics or links? I did asearch of the board didn't come up with much for the 3rd gen. I just purchased a 02 Sport Edition and am seriously thinking about doing this, but I'm not sure about the pros and cons. Is there a commercially made dual system for the T4Rs? Or would a custom installation be better? Any light you all can shed on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

IIRC there are issues with the spare tire under the truck getting in the way,. you would have to remove it.

You really can't do a dual unless you remove the spare. The shop here would not do it without removing the spare. Others have tried on 3rd gens to run duals and get metal to metal clanking when hitting bumps - no room, with spare in place. It was all planned to have two pipes, and after it didn't fit, my guy held up the 2nd and it looked so damn good it had to stay. This is one of my favorite mods and it gives a great balance on a 3rd gen with a hitch.

Dude, the rear dual exhaust looks beautiful on the 3rd. The side dual exhaust doesn't look too hot, IMO.

I don't plan on gettin dual exhaust, but would it be smart to remove the spare tire? I need piece of mind when i drive, knowin i have a spare just in case.

thats definitely not smart.

i mean you have other options, like getting a roof basket and mounting it up top... but thats a lot of work for dual exhausts

In 27 years of driving I have never had to use my spare. Yes I have been Lucky...But come on guy's really, how many of us crawl under there and check the pressure in their spare anyway?

Next spring I plan on getting the Dual's done and losing the spare. Yes most if not all of my driving is Metro Area and never out of Cell Phone Range. If I was going to take a trip I would just plan some extra room for the spare. There is nothing like a pic of Jason B's exhaust to make you want to chunk that spare.

If you want a big bang for the buck mod on your 02, go for the Chrome Bulbs Jason has a pic of above. I've had mine for a month or so and still look at them everytime I look at the back. If you don't think these make a difference just look at that big ugly bulb that shows in your stock lens!

Jason, I will definitely be purchasing that vortex muffler from your company. 89 bucks isn't bad at all. How much should I set aside for the 18" chrome tips? Any particular brands I should look at?

As long as the look justifies the sound it doesn't concern me that one pipe is strictly for show. I definitely don't like the duals coming out of the sides. Straight out the back is the only way to go in my case.

Can anybody recommend any good muffler /exhaust shops in the Washington DC metro area??

1) Chrome tips. Well, when I got mine, they were $22 a piece I think. Chrome plated steel. Most good exhaust shops should have a good selection to pic from.

2) Sound. The sound is incredible! Some video clips on the site.

3) A shop. Well, I had Meineke do mine. Ask around, and ask people who does "good" work.

Any chance you could mount that spare rim with a very low profile tire and gain enough clearance?

If it's for looks then just do the dummy pipe like Jason's since the cons are the cost,extra weight and negligible HP gain. Money could be spent wiser but if it's burning a hole in your pocket then burn away.
