Dual Outlet Ashtray ?

On the true ash tray insert with the two outlets, will a typical garage door opener fit in the ash tray? I would like to add one of the factory ash tray inserts, but still keep my remote in that area. From the threads I have read it looks like a remote would fit when the ash tray is pulled out, but its hard to be sure.

I guess it would depend on how big your remote is? I have the smokers tray installed in mine, but the ashtray portion is pretty small. I just measured it and it's only 2x2 and 3.5 deep. Hope this helps

That's exactly where I keep my garage door remote. ;):

This is the remote I have (it's a Genie):

I remove the outer case/belt clip.

BTW, here's a little bit of trivia: The cigarette lighter outlet is wired to a different circuit than the 12v power outlet. I know this because I did the "constant on" 12v power outlet mod and while the 12v outlets (front and rear) are constantly powered, the cigarette lighter is only powered when the ignition is on.

Ok, ordered mine today.

Now I need a how-to. How do you get the old one out and the new one in? Does it just pop out and in, or do I have to remove the console?

The top panel around the gear selector just pops out, just have to pop out the trim piece before the cup holder portion.

I got one of these about 5 months ago and love it. I love my gadgets so when I am on road trips I often have a standalone GPS going along with my phone and my girlfriends phone. This allows me (along with a dual usb charger) to charge all three devices at once. Road trips prior to this were a constant shuffling of what device would get the charger. Installation literally took 5 min. Well worth the money and looks great.

Just pops up, lift up your arm rest/center console, and just pry up the ends from there. There's diy's with pictures posted around here for removing the stereo

Put mine in today. Next, I removed the ashtray lid and used a couple of small screws as hinge points to give me plenty of room for the remote.
