dual transfer case newbe question

can i just run dual stock toyota transfer cases on my 85 and get the low low gear to crawl thanks !

The answer could be yes...

you need an adapter kit to connect the transfer cases together. Modify your cross member and lengthen your front drive shaft and shorten your rear drive shaft.

If you have a 4 cylinder with a manual trans it will probably bolt right up to the transmission but if you have an auto you have to buy a $500 adapter.

There are also some small mods you have to make to your transfer case and the second transfer case.

Ive got $1300.00 in my project ( I had to buy 2 transfer cases (and the $500 adapter)

Yes, but they don't simply bolt together. One gets disassembled and the front section bolts to the adapter, which then bolts to the second case. Other modifications required are listed above.

If you check out Marlin Crawler or Advance Adapters sites there is plenty of info.

You can get damn near the same crawl ratio out of a 4.3 low range gear set & do the twin stick mod.

Not quite the same # of options, but MUCH cheaper & easier to do.

Installing a crawler gear set in your stock case is an easier way, no driveshaft changes are needed.

Not always true - the a340f doesn't. The determining factor is whether your case is gear driven or chain driven.

99.9% of autos have chain cases.
my second gen runner w/ a 22re and 5spd had a chain case. had to buy a 500ish dollar Inchworm adapter to run dual cases
