Ducmonsta's Epic Cross Country Trip - July-September

I will be taking another cross country trip with our teardrop, "Recon" from July 15th until about mid-September. I've done a multiple month trek with my 3rd gen and will be visiting some of the same sites as the last one because I'll have kids in tow on my way east. There are definite places I want to share with them along the way that I've been to. And since they're old enough to remember, I'm hoping this will be a trip to remember for the rest of their lives. On the trip back west, I'll be taking a more leisurely trip since I'll be accompanied by a friend and fellow member [MENTION=64864]GotMo37[/MENTION]. [MENTION=78318]RiDE[/MENTION] will be joining us in Moab so we can visit Arches NP and complete the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP.


I'll be doing this as a part of "work" and taking the opportunity to visit home (Washington, DC) for the summer. This will give me an opportunity to share TeardropsNW's build quality with people throughout my trek and let them see it firsthand so they don't have to fly to visit Salem, Or.

Some of the major highlights of the trip will include Yellowstone NP for 12 days, Black Hills NF, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Badlands NP, Wall Drug, Mitchell's Corn Palace, Indiana Dunes, a Jellystone park, Niagara Falls, Moab, UT, Canyonlands NP, Arches NP, White Rim Trail, back to Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, Scottsbluff, Glacier NP, Mt Ranier, Mt. St. Helens.

Alright... I confess. I have no idea what MAOF so I googled it. I don't think you want me to visit the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. But if so, and you say I need to visit, there must be something good there.

I should be in Badlands on the north side of Scenic Rd on 7/27-7/29. We'll spend a couple of days in the area and be in Sage Creek and Cedar Pass. We're going to take that time to visit Wall Drug and visit the Jackalope.

Would love to meet up when you are in Denver if possible.

Our Denver stop may be pretty quick. I'll be visiting some old friends have have no idea what we're going to end up doing. However, see below for Moab.

So far, Moab consists of Sand Flats Rec area on 8/31, do Arches (which is fairly short and quick) and then hit up Canyonlands and do the White Rim Trail 9/1-9/3 and then depart to Grand Teton from there. [MENTION=78318]RiDE[/MENTION] and I will be at Murphy B on 9/1 and Labyrinth A on 9/2. That would be spectacular to do White Rim with more T4R folks!

Oh damn...I have been really wanting to do the white rim, and that time frame totally fits. I assume you have those mentioned spots reserved already?

Yellowstone/Cody area must drive Beartooth Scenic Highway and Crandal Road(Chief Joesph Scenic Highway). Beartooth - highway/pavement on east side of canyon and can see across to west side of canyon a FS road up to Hell Roaring Plateau - roads meet at large campground on Rock Creek south of Red Lodge,MT.
Burgess Junction - instead of pavement to Dayton, good FS road from near Burgess down east side of mtn. to Big Horn, WY, just south of Sheridan - called Red Grade Road - red dirt. Busy road but better than pavement and many offshoots if want to explore. FS office at Burgess can give you low-down on entire area.
I may be able to make it to Burgess -I'm about 1 hour north - I'll follow thread so let me know when in area. I'm right at Custer (Little Bighorn) Battle - can swing north from Sheridan, see battlefield, and take highway 212 over to Black Hills.

Awesome info! To answer your PM, I'll actually be in Burgess Junction on 7/25. I need to drop off my wife at Cody, WY so she can catch her flight back to PDX. Someone has to pay the bills hahahahaha.

Awesome highway loop would be through Yellowstone to Cooke City, to Red Lodge, east to Belfry, south to Crandall Rd north of Cody and back to Cooke City, South into YS again and exit west entrance to Cody. Big plains indian and Winchester museum in Cody worth seeing.
