Dunlop tires

From reading several threads on this board, do I correctly understand the consensus of the board to be that the order of preference for new tires on a 4-Runner is: 1) Michelin, 2) Bridgestone and 3) Dunlop. I am going to pick up my 2005 Limited today. I noticed when I signed the contract for the 4-Runner that that on the vehicles displayed at the dealership were Dunlops, Bridgestones and some tires that I believe were called
Toyo Radials. What does anyone know about Toyo Radials? Thanks so much.

Not sure if the order would be your list or swapping #1 and #2. It seems like we all agree #3 is a distant 3rd in the list.

Toyo makes very good tires. Like all tires though, it depends on the exact model. It's doubtful they would put the top of the line on there.

Your list is correct. Go to www.tirerack.com and check out the comments on the above listed tires. They will give you a good idea from owners which tire you want on your 4runner. I made the michelins part of the deal on my SE and I'm very happy with them.

Bridgestone Revos, or Michelin Cross Terrains are the top two. Revos get a slightly higher rating from "Tirerack". I have the Michelins and have no complaints. I'm going to take a closer look at the Revos when it comes time for me to replace the tires I have (50K miles or so from now).

How are the Michelin Cross Terrains doing in Alaska winter weather? Are they good in your opinion in the snow? Have not had mine in the snow down here in SW Missouri yet

Simply OUTSTANDING! But I cannot say if the are better than the Revos, since I haven't driven the Revos. Like many things, I believe there is always room for improvement.

Yes, but I have noticed that the tread is assymetrical and faces opposite directions with respect to driver's side and passenger side. Although I have not noticed it as such, I kinda wonder if one side of the car doesn't grip snow/mud better than the other...

Is it true that they don't salt the roads in Alaska? A friend of mine told me that they just drop gravel over the snow/ice for traction. I don't know if he was kidding me though....

Do you have any more snow pics of your 4Runner ??

Well, your friend didn't lie. Not much point in salting here really (especially Fairbanks) because salt (regular NaCl) doesn't do much good below 15-20 degrees F. Most of the time we are well below those temps in the winter.
