Went up to Mt Charleston here in Vegas today and found the coooooolest road ever...total gravel road with no traffic as teh only way up off the main road is with 4WD and for about 40' up. After that it turned into this 30-40 foot wide gravel road right along a ridge of the plateau that was there.

I didnt really expect to go up there today so i didnt take my camera but its was just like Grand Turismo 4 rally style. Only problem was the VSC kicking in as soon as the tail tried to step out more than about 2-3degrees off the longitudinal diretion of travel.

The best part was that there were hairpins, elevation changes with largee enough woops to cause the truck to get light and maybe even leave the ground...

I think I know the place. Is it a left turn (south) off the highway before you've gotten to the Inn? A short ways after you leave the highway you start a nice steep climb with lots of turns? Fun road. This pic was taken after descending the other side of the climb. Look like it?

JB thats the exact road man.... what a good time that road was yesterday. If i hadnt been at a quarter tank of gas when i found it, i would have stayed there a hella longer than i did.

yes, I call it the party pooper...

you can disable it though by locking the center differential in 4WD.

Where does the road go? I'll be up in Vegas in a couple weeks, and am looking for some outdoor excursions. Plan to drive out to the Black Canyon Wilderness area too.

I dont know where the road goes as i was fairly low on gas and only went like 2 miles on it before i turned around.

The VSC is a little bitch...the only way that i can think to get it off is to lock the center diff but then that would just F the shit out of the diff at those speeds. Unless i can find a fuse to pull for the VSC, it looks like its here to stay.

there should be a plug somewhere (maybe your master cylinder?) that you can pull to disable ABS, which would also disable VSC, i know there is a plug in 3rd gens, but I have never felt the need to disable it and run my top heavy suv like a rally truck, the way i look at it, is its the best alternative to lockers (i.e. free) until i can save up enough to disable the VSC with a few air compressed buttons......

I did the drive when I was in Vegas. The road is Harris Springs Road, and is marked on the maps that I have. It's a loop on the south side of 157, but there's a fork that goes toward a private ranch as well. If you take that fork, there's one other fork just before you get to private property that takes you up several miles of switchbacks to Griffith Peak at about 8500'. It's a nice, stock friendly drive. I'll post some pictures after I find my CF card.

how hard would it be to tap into the wires before the plug at the mast cyl and run a set of wires into the cab with a toggle switch so you can manual turn off the VCS?

can't wait to see some of those pictures. i'll search around the internet for the place and see how "stock friendly" it is since a friend of mine might try and go with his 4x2 dodge ram. how do i get there from the strip? thanks in advance.:arrow:

I found out the end of the road isn't quite the top of the mountain. You can hike the rest of the way, about 3000' higher.
