Duratrac 275/65/18 anyone with experience?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and purchased a 2004 4runner ltd not long ago. I've started to get the modding bug in me and want to run some nicer looking tires. I bought a set of stock limited 18's and now I'm looking for tires.

Current set up is Daystar 2.5 front and adjusted RAS rear, with allpro 1.5" spacers. Even with stock 265/60/18's I sometimes get rubbing when reversing off the driveway. I believe this is strictly due to the wheel spacers. Any thoughts on running 275/65/18's...I don't want to lose the mud flaps but am willing to move fender liners forward and trimming if it's not noticeable. Or should I stick with what I can get in a 265/65/18, like the bfg AT. This is mainly a winter truck and I get lots of snow. Also interested in mpg drop if anyone has experience.

The 275 will definitely rub the front mud flaps. You'll have to remove them or stick with the 265 (which could still have minor rubbing).
 
I'm running the same set up - DS and 275/65/18 duratracs.

I had to remove the front mud flaps, and move the inner fender up, and trim a little of the front valance. I still get slight rubbing on the driver side on full lock over bumps where the mud flaps were...

In your experience is the duratrac's worth the trouble of the performance and looks, or would you go bfg AT 265/65/18 if you had to do it all over again?

Yes, I'm happy with the 275/65/18's. And not, they are 32.1 I believe. With the daystar lift, I think it makes the truck look great.

Ideally...I'd like the get the OW 2.0 with LC UCA's and try to fit some 275/70/18's!
 
I have had the exact same results as HOJeepster first stated, and I also have the daystar, plus the fj suspension. You'll definitely need to remove front flaps, I still have my rears on and have no issues with them.
 
I decided against the 275/65/18 (E Load) Duratracs for basically the same reasons you list:

1) avoid mud flap removal; ok with some trimming/moving of fender liner
2) fuel economy

So, I bought 17" rims (2012 T4R TE) and put 265/70/17 Duratracs (C Load) on hoping to get decent fuel economy and minimal rubbing.

I have no rubbing to date (factory suspension).

I'm currently getting 16.5 L/100km (winter/ slow commute), which isn't very good IMO. I'm driving very conservatively in an effort to see the best fuel economy I can achieve. I was previously getting about 13 L/100km on OEM size tires with the 18" Limited rims in the Fall (ok commute).

As for winter driving, most of what I've read points to the Duratracs being better than the BFG ATs, especially on ice. I've had about 30cm of snow so far this year and I can tell you my experience is these Duratracs are pretty solid in the snow but I haven't been happy with the ice performance. I'll approach an intersection at about 10-15km/hr and if there's ice I'll just keep sliding despite my foot on the brake pedal. ABS is chattering away, I've got it in neutral, but no stopping is happening.

For example, at this one intersection, in summer I'd stop in probably 1m (in effect nearly as fast as I can slam my foot on the brake). With winter tires (my -ahem- minivan) I stop in about 5m (maybe 1 second of sliding time). With these Duratracs, it's like 12m (3 seconds of sliding time.) An extra 7 meters is a long distance at such a slow speed, I feel. It seriously feels like I can walk as fast as I'm slo-motion crashing. I've been fortunate (or careful enough) not to have had to experience this at higher speed yet.
 
ok, so if its mainly a winter truck, why didnt you get winter tires for it? im guessing you just wanted something cooler or as you put it, nicer looking. did you really expect an AT tire to be good on ice?

or you could put studs in the Duratracs if you use them for winter too...they are predrilled.

I'm pretty happy with my Duratracs. I got caught in 39" of snow overnight at Stevens Pass the other night, drove right out of it (blower snow).

I think overtime you'll like the Duratracs...
