Duratrac's coming...

course then I have to get a spare to match.

trying to milk the rest of the winter with what came on it when I bought it (last week) but in case I have to get some I will be ready to buy and know what I want.

does it mess up the speedo much? can't see it being to bad.

any bad on going with a 245/255 instead of 265
 
anybody know when the duractracs are coming out in 18" diameter? this would be my next set of tires for my limited if they would come out in my size

wont the gearing be off if I have to used the 70's vs the 75?

or is the difference not enough to mess the gearing up.

I will start shopping for those Duratects. they look and sound like a good tire

You'll be fine on gearing. I'm on 285/75'd (33's) and still on stock 4:10 gearing. Any larger than 285's it's probably best to re gear. But for 265/75's you're fine.

just to clarify, I meant the spare tires size. if I have to use it with the ones on the ground being 75's (if I buy them) and putting on my spare that is a 70 will I be able to get where I need to with out messing anything up. that was what meant for gearing.

Well, I couldn't wait to lift first. The tires were a safety issue this winter. Safety comes before performance.

The reason I went with the 75's instead of the 70's was that that was all I could find the duratrac's in. Maybe they do make them, but Tirerack doesn't show 265/70-16 as an option.


BTW, Bigwebb, they already come in 18" diameter, just limited sizes.
 
Does anyone feel as though the 285's are overkill for someone not doing SERIOUS off-roading, just your standard Mountain trips on semi-rough terrain. Definitely looking for a reason to save a bunch of cash, keep the stock height etc. Although, one could just go with 1.25" spacers, a new offset wheel and a slight BL keeping the "low and wide" look/feel I want? Anyone running 285's with little to no modifications? IE: only spacers?

If you want to save money and keep stock suspension height just get 265/75/16 or 265/70/17. They should fit with very little or no rubbing. That size will fill up the wheel well. I have 265/75s under my lift and it looks real good if you ask me, even though I want 285s. On stock suspension they should look meaty.

If you want a wider stance get some spidertrax or new wheels with less backspacing. I have 265s on LC80 wheels and they just peek out past the edge of my SR5 flares (the black plastic ones).

285s with no lift will cause some headaches. Not that it can't be done. Just be ready to do some work to make them fit.

Mine are loudest around 40 MPH for whatever reason. I like the sound. I also drive on interstate with my windows down usually....windows up and music on you can't hear much. They hook up pretty well wheeling, not that I wheel super hard. And in the snow they are great.

Cool, I don't want to sound like a helicopter driving down the road. I understand I can't have the best of both worlds, but I'm on road more than I'm off, and that obviously weighs heavily in a tire decision.
 
I was pretty much set on getting Silent Armors.. but now I'm thinking about Duratracs again! Damn this thread.

How much usable mileage are you guys getting out of these? Winter usable. I drive about 325 miles a week, and would like to get more than 2 winters out of a set, which is why I'm curious. And why I was leaning towards the SA's.
 
Good tires, but pretty flimsy sidewalls for any real off roading.

One guy I wheel with regularly tore two sidewalls within a month

He had Discount Tire buy them back, and bought something with a bit more strength
