Duratracs vs. BFG A/T

Trying to decide. Mostly highway use with occasional fire roads and rock wheeling. Duratracs sound :lookout: when you first break them in. Also: I'll be running an 883/891 setup, which will be slightly harsh, but I do NOT want any sag with two bumpers, winch, etc. The sidewall issues have me nervous. Size will be 285/75/16

I think the sidewall issues with the Duratracs was with full size trucks getting load range C tires. I went with 265/75/16 in load range E and love them.

Off road the BFGs are a bit more durable but on dry pavement and wet weather manners the Duratracs are more predictable than the BFGs and have a better margin of error when the hydroplaning starts and IMO are easier to control and yes,I've driven on more than a few sets of BFGs. Wear would most likely go to the BFGs since they wear like rocks but I don't want to drive on rocks over the life of the tire and the Duratracs in the C load range provide a bit less harsh of a ride. If you go with the E load range with the bigger 285s I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ron, on your Duratrac 'C' what pressure are you running? Do they handle ok?

BFGs for me are like a good looking woman in short shorts, I can't help but look :naughty: ....I have had 3 sets on other 4wds (Nissan, GMC and Dodge), I always enjoyed them. They will likely outlive their good ride, as others say on here, but I don't see that as a bad problem. Roundtrip for me to go to work and back is 1500 miles once every 6 weeks, I really rack up the miles.

The Duratracs really had my attention, and I was very close to trying them out w/ my new setup I am doing in two weeks. I had some Good Year Forteras on my wifes pathfinder a couple years ago, and I absolutely hated them. That bad taste for those old tires, kept me from going w/ the Duratracs. But they are some really good looking tires w/ a good rep overall.

I had to go with BFGs again, I always catch myself checking out any truck that has em.....I knew I would never be disappointed with them based on the sets I've owned before.

Blondes or Brunettes ? Seems about the same comparison to me. :whip2:

I would go with the BFG's. I just replaced the BFG's on my truck with 85k miles on them with more BFG's. Oh yeah, I sold the old set, they still had some tread on them. I almost went with the Duratrac's. I may for the next set once more feedback over the years come in. Also, the new BFG's are load range E, the old ones were load range D. Surprisingly the new 10 plys are way smoother than the old 8plys ever were. Also the 10plys are severe snow rated as the 8 plys are not. Strange since the tread is the same.

I run my Duratracs at 35-38psi and they don't feel squishy at all but anything under 35psi did feel a bit soft.
