DVD's sound like HELL thru car speakers

Hey guys, I started to mess with the headrest DVD players yesterday a little and I need to figure out how to make it sound GOOD thru the car speakers. I guess it uses something called an 'FM Modulator', so that when a DVD is being played and you want to hear it on the car stereo you set it to the radio station that was set at the port (87.7 in my case). It just sounds real sh|tty though....and I know NOTHING about stereo's. Before I run down to the stereo bastards and fork over a ton of money i wanted to hear what you guys thought about this. I know its not relevant in your case, but this is what I have. I have a 8.4" portable dvd player and then use a PIE adapter that goes into the JBL system. You have to turn up the stereo, but it sounds great.

What you should look into doing is getting the DVD hardwired somehow into the head unit. FM modulators are always crap.

it sounds like crap cuz its not hardwired into your dvd player...its pickin up an fm signal and transferring sound that way.. the only real way to get it to sound good is get a screen that has and stereo input where u can hook up rca's thatll sound better...imagine listening to cd's then a fm station......thats the difference..but fm stations sound better cuz they have better service the fm modulator sux!!!!!!!!! (i use one in my t4r too but for a portable media center) Hope that helps!

I have this problem in my Sienna. Can you hard wire into the JBL sytem? (the Van has the same stereo as the T4r) Or do you have to have a certain plug on the back of your stereo?

I have no clue, but I do plan on having whatever 'work' done i really got this setup so that I could listen to surfvideos&their soundtracks.....:arrow:

There are 2 forms of fm modulators. One style only sends a frequency through the air and this usually gives you a lot of static and cutting. A second style uses and antenna adaptor box and directly connects to the back of the headunit. This is still fm modulated but it gives you a cleaner signal. The besy way to go is like stated above with a direct input to the cd changer plug or with an aftermarket headunit using the aux input.

Thanks. What would you do to listen to the dvd then? I never checked but is there an aux setting in addition to the radio and cd?

I use the steering wheel controls mostly, so when I am at CD I press mode again to get to the "cd changer". This gives me the audio through the PIE. The DVD player also plays MP3s so I can use that as a jukebox as well.

I have to say I agree with the problems with the FM modulator. I have all kinds of static, etc. Had the station changed x 2 at Audio Express (they installed the DVD). Has anyone written up a direct hook up with the DVD and JBL?
