Dying the Carpet!

Hey guys, first post! Let me get to the point: I have an 03 Black Limited. Has Tan leather with base tan interior with silver and faux granite accents. Since my carpet is dirty via grease, rust, bleach stains, etc. I have decided to dye the carpet. My question to you all is should i dye the carpet the STOCK TAN, or dye it a different color like BLACK?

I am not buying new carpet. THANKS IN ADVANCE for your opinions! It will look very professional btw lol.

p.s. I'm guessing but I don't think dye will work on any areas you can't get clean, i.e. the grease spots.

well, i've cleaned the carpet best best i could including the great and there is still a slight stain from where the grease was. its come a long way from where it was and i think it'll stick. the plasti dip stuff, not a big fan. i've been there and done that with modifying things with my old car. I'm just trying to rejuvenate the car and keep it stock. I bought this thing brand new and the carpet has taken a beating. plus it doesn't help that you let your fiance drive it for a year.

the carpet is a nylon blend and definitely will not accept the dye to the grease areas as the grease fills the pores of the nylon fiber not allowing it to accept the dye...

Sorry Man, New carpet is your best bet!

i hear ya...well seeing as the car is stripped down and will be for a week or two, i went ahead and bought the duplicolor fabric spray.

I tested an old floor mat and it actually worked great. it sprayed three coats and combed it down after it dried on every coat. it actually looks really good for a quick job. it feels great as well. i walked all over it with my sperrys on and dragged my feet for a few minutes. it didn't wipe off. Passed a quick test for me.

i vacuumed the hell out of my carpet and then i sprayed "hot shot" over most of the carpet and got a lot of it out, but it was still dirty. the grease spots came up, except for a slight discolor. I just mixed dawn and a little water and scrubbed with a heavy scrubber. Now i am waiting on that to dry. still dirty in my book.

thanks for those that responded back with their input. i'm with you on the grease fibers, but it wasn't that bad of grease stains. besides, i went with black lol. i'll let u know how it turns out. i am also re-spraying the factory silver trip on the inside. those are at my buddies paint shop, sanded and ready to go...

It would be much cheaper to get it professionally cleaned. I seriously doubt any dye is going to work unless you get it completely spotless. If not the dye will never adhere to the grease or dirt spots.
