Hey Everyone,

I've been getting sick of all the noise coming from my cargo area (from several places back there), and from the front driver's side door, so I decided to order some Dynamat Xtreme. I bought a bulk back off of eBay (which I believe contains 36 sq feet - should be plenty for now) and I also bought a license plate kit for the rear license plate.

As always, I plan to take step-by-step detailed pictures of how to remove the panels in the truck as I go along :)

Does anyone know anything about removing the interior part of the hatch door? Does that come off? I haven't seen any directions about it.

License plate kit should be coming on Tuesday...I'm not sure about the bulk back, but hopefully that'll be here soon too! If the weather is nice, I'll probably do the install soon (I am at school and do not have a garage to do work in...). If not, it'll have to wait until mid/late-March or so.

If anyone's done any of this & has pointers/suggestions, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows how to remove the interior part of the hatch door, please let me know!

Have a dynomat roller, which is pretty much a roller that has a rubber wide wheel and a heat gun.. ..

THen you shouldn't have any problem
 
Heat gun? Isn't that for Dynamat Original only? I was under the impression that Dynamat Xtreme did not need a heat gun...

Anyone have any ideas on removing the interior paneling from the hatch door?

It's really easy...just remove the screw behind the little plate and pull it off like any door panel.
 
I am using FatMat on mine. I've had much better results in the past vs. Dynamat. Also, not expensive at all.
 
OK, well thanks for the tip on the heat gun. I just ordered a Craftsman...should be here in a couple days. I don't think I'll be able to do the install this weekend due to the cold weather. Probably weekend after though.

Otterball, I'm planning on just picking up a similar roller from the hardware store. I didn't want to spend the $20 to get a "dynamat" roller here, shipped.

Lizardking, how are you planning to do the roof?
 
Ya any rubber roller is fine. Good luck with your install! Also, use a sheet rock knife to cut it up. Make sure not to cover the holes and nuts that you need to take off components to the door, screwing yourself in the long run. you don't need to cover every square cm. you should have big squares all around, and around the speaker itself.
 
This is exactly how it is in the repair manual :

1. REMOVE BACK DOOR TRIM BOARD
a) Remove the assist strap hole cover
b) Remove the screw and assist strap
c) Using a screwdriver, remove the back door trim
d) Using a clip remover, remove the 10 clips and trimboard
e) Remove the inner weather strip

Looking at the manual, it is all clips except for that one screw for the assist strap. If you need anything else, let me know.
 
Just ordered some Cacade Audio acoustic spray...It comes in 20oz aerosol cans. I bought 8 cans to do the inner doors and some of the back hatch gate.. Then I will cover everything with two bulk packs of Dynamat Extreme..

I'm looking at your audio list

Why don't you combine the gps and the indash screeen and the satellite radio into one?

Pioneer AVC-n1. The sirius tuner for the pioneer is out so you can plug it into the pioneer. It's a indash touch screen with dvd player. It also has a gps system, gyroscope, tach, etc etc etc. It's a great system... recommending you to look into it.
 
The Kenwood Excelon KVT-915DVD is one of the best if not the best units you can get right now.. It has alot of audiophile features I need for my system. The Kenwood has the Nav unit that plugs right into the system but its seperate. I like the Garmin because I use it for both vehicles.. I may put the Kenwood Nav add-on later and give the Garmin to the wife. I looked at the Pioneer awhile back and the specs don't hold a candle to the Kenwood. I see your from PA me too, I live in the Pocono's..

All the items listed in my sig I already own, they where removed out of my old vehicle...

oohhhh ok.... Yeah, I work at best buy and I was like.. wow... you want to get all taht stuff, thought I could save you some money.... ;-) for you to get other things!

Well, I spent about 14 hrs dynamating over the weekend.

Know what I got done? JUST the drivers-side rear panel (upper and lower).

Be prepared for a tremendous time investment if you do this install! I probably overdid the install a bit (I pretty much dynamated every piece of metal, removing components as I went & all), but still, this business takes quite some time.

I'm going to continue the install over my spring break. Hopefully the rest of the car won't take as much time as this panel did!

just out of curiousity-how much was spent just buying the dynamat for the whole 4runner?

Buying the Dynamat? Well, I just grabbed it off of eBay, so I'd say a good 10 mins (mostly to make sure I was actually getting a decent deal).

I don't know that I actually purchased enough for the entire 4runner though. I guess it depends on what you mean by "the whole 4runner". For instance, I am not planning on Dynamating the floor or roof at this point.
