E-Brake light always on?

My e-brake light won’t turn off. My cables and hardware are free and functioning from the interior lever through the bell cranks and beyond. The indicator switch below the lever clicks when I depress and release it. I did lose a fair amount of brake fluid while pulling an axle shaft to inspect a bearing. There are two wires that clip into the side of the fluid reservoir in the engine compartment and the only thing I can think of is that they monitor fluid level and throw a code when it gets too low, which is indicated by the red brake light on the dash. I've never heard of such a thing nor have I found anything to support the idea. The axle shaft is the only work I've done on the truck and the light came on the very first time I started it after reassembly. Any thoughts?

My thought is, if you lost fluid you should add fluid. Especially if the level is low.

I agree...system bleeding and topping off the reservoir were part of reassembly. I may sound crazy but I wouldnt leave things dry...

haha no I didn't think you left it dry. It did sound like you didn't top it off though. I thought I remembered someone on here talking about that light and how to clear it but I can't find it. Maybe you need to disconnect the batt?? Maybe that switch, which has probably never been used before got stuck...

It is a simple float switch that completes the circuit for the brake light on the dash, fill er' up and she will go off.

You may have gathered from the other replies. The brake light not only comes on from the e-brake but also the hydro system.

Thanks for the responses...gotta love the panic lights. I'll pack some more fluid in there tomorrow and see if i cant get it to go away.
