E-Locker Retrofit

I know there have been a million threads about this but I can't seem to find the answers to my specific questions.

Judge all you want, but I can not do this retrofit myself. I don't have the experience or the tools or the time. I am a music education major and my schedule is the most insane thing in existence.

1. WHERE can I go to have this done? I am sure there is a shop or place that does this kind of thing in the Denver area... but I can't find anyone with experience. Does anybody have a recommendation?

2. I am a little confused about how you get the parts. Can you order everything you need from Toyota? Where would the place I would go to get the parts for this retrofit?

BFAD explains retrofit e-locker. There's a few on E-bay right now. You'll need the 3rd member, wiring harnesses and ABS+Locker 4WD ECU. You don't necessarily need a new axle housing. Your 2000 is somewhat set up for it. I have a buddy up there that retro'ed a locker onto his '88 Runner and he went to some guy in Arvada that sold him a wiring kit. As far as someone installing it for you, you're in CO so that helps. There's like 9 million crazy Toyota people there.

Also, if you are not worried about the factory fit and finish button and ECU, you can use this harness thats pretty simple to install.

Since you are in Colorado, just buy a 12 pack and a T4R.org sticker and they will come.

So the only way to get the parts for the retrofit is a junkyard or ebay or craigslist? Is there nobody that makes the parts specific for the 4runner that you can buy?

They have done a few of these retro fits now and are very knowledgable. And they are right here in Denver.

Ouch. That'll empty the wallet pretty quick. I'd stick with CL or E-Bay. Maybe even an auto-auction if you have access. Might be able to snag a totaled truck before it gets to a salvage yard. I might actually be selling one in the future. I haven't got that far yet but I'll keep the forum posted if I do.

If you can find a few salvage yards, go looking. Try to find a limited with a functioning e-locker and take out the entire rear axle assembly along with the wiring harness.

Usually we can find the diffs around $400-500. Labor to install including us building the wire harness is about $300. The main thing we need to confirm is your gear ratio.

You sound like my go-to guy for this thing! What is the simple way of finding out my gear ratio?

Also, does this have any other long term effects on the car? Or is it essentially just the the exact same everything except with an e-locker (I assume)?

Responded to your email earlier but I'll post here too. The gear code is on the bottom right corner of the driver door tag. A03A is usually a 4.10 ratio and A04A is 4.30.

Everything functions the same way. The only difference I forgot to mention is that with our locker harness, you do not need to be in 4lo for the locker to engage. It would be the same as the "gray wire mod" for trucks that came with the locker.

That is a great deal on the install! Just buying a pre-fabbed wiring harness is like $150 alone...

How's it going t4r lovers? I swapped my 4runner rear axle with an fj rear which has an e locker. I ordered and installed the harness from low range offroad. The light in my switch stayes on and it seems that the locker is enguaged. The light doesn't change at all going from on to off so I can't tell if the locker is disenguaging or not. I did take my switch apart in order to feed it in to the cab and I'm sure that the way I put it back together has something to do with it. Has anybody dealt with this scenario?

I have a 4WD ECU and Diff Lock switch for the locker I would sell you. PM me if you are interested in talking about it. I also have four or five connectors for the harness I would throw in for free. I do not have the harness however.
