E-locker swap, clarify some details for me please

Looking for someone who is more savvy with this project or associated wiring. I am going for a 4:30 gear swap/e-locker tomorrow. The truck is fully running and driving until I do this, so I would like to get as much/everything for WIRING if possible.

I have a base model, NON-ABS 3rz 97'. I have the plug behind the dash for the switch it appears. I have this empty harness behind the kick panel, I believe this is for the locker as well (based on some searches) is it not?

So if I read correctly, this makes me partially wired for the e-locker? Not sure where else/what else would make me fully wired. So here is my grey area..

My rig is a 5-speed, the donor is an automatic ABS model. Is everything usable on my truck? What wiring specifically do I take from the donor to make this happen? I know there is an ECU for the locker, I've seen people say the harness for the locker is run through the truck, some say it's under the truck.

Can someone just specify what item's I will need to grab off the truck in addition? I know the switch obviously. Thank you, I have until tomorrow morning to read/prepare myself tool wise to do all this.

So found a write-up, but none of the links or anything are working for me. Appears that useful items from the truck will be;

-Locker switch
-Locker ECU
-Main locker wiring harness from motor itself that enters the truck near rear seat
-The plug I have, cut the wiring back several inches and connect those wires to corresponding colors on main locker harness.

Miss anything?

I assume you've checked under your seat to see if you have the wiring that runs from the main wiring junction to the seat? The wires from the Locker ECU plug run to the main wiring harness junction, so you can either splice into those wires, or just remove those specific wires from the donor.

This post has the wiring diagrams http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/167531-factory-e-locker-troubleshooting-%7C-bigfishallday-quoted.html

The second to last wiring diagram shows exactly where the wires run from the ECU to the body (IE2, slots 4/3/9/8 I believe). When you get to the donor, just remove the wires from IE2 back to under the seat, same with the others. The only one that doesn't matter, since you will likely ground it anyway, is the 4WD wire, so you can use it in 2wd.

Even my (originally) 2WD has the plugs behind the dash for the elocker switch and ECU along with the light on the gauge cluster. The part that isn't pre-wired on most trucks is the harness that goes along the driver's side of the body just inside the doors that connects to the gas tank, etc.

That goes to elocker ecu. Here is a 96-99 elocker wiring diagram.

Got it I believe. I have learned to solder and do quality wiring, I just fail miserably at wiring diagrams and generally try to have it spelled out for me.

I will get the main harness tomorrow and see how difficult it proves to de-loom the harness and get the connecting wires to the ECU.

Thanks guys for the help. Already went out and removed my axle. I'm plenty mechanical just suck at electrical haha.

I believe I have all the wiring in place, pulled up the rear carpet. So then I just need to plug in the ECU for the locker and the main harness and switch? Everything I've seen online appears to match my harness when locker is involved. I have the extra wires it appears. Super odd since this is a BASE truck.

Here are the pictures from my e-locker retrofit.

Assuming you have the proper wires in place under the dash you'll need the ECU, the switch, the harness from under the seat to the elocker, and optionally the body harness which goes from the ecu (under the dash) to the back of the tailgate.

Here are the two types of harnesses under the rear seat. They look similar, but the white e-locker plug on the right has some extra wires.

Here is the harness that goes from the above plug to the elocker, it also includes the breather tube.

It is a major pain to replace the entire body harness, if I did it again I'd just add the additional e-locker wires to my existing harness.

I hope this helps.

Helps majorly. Thank you!

I am going to pull it all tomorrow. I am super familiar with how the interior comes apart, just fully sound deadened my truck. So I'll grab the whole thing just encase.

I will wire it up after I get the front all swapped out, skid's on, before I go wheeling. Meanwhile I just want to make sure I am not regretting grabbing something I had the chance to.
