E-Locker swap or Air Locker for 5th Gen

Hey guys,
I have posted this in the 5th gen section but also wanted to post it here to get others' opinions and knowhow. I know I've seen similar questions through the "search" but not dealing with the current generation.

E-Locker swap or Air Locker for 5th Gen

I'll start off by saying I've been searching for a solid answer but could not find exactly what I'm looking for through the search.

I've decided that my next modification will be a rear locker come spring. I've been leaning towards the ARB Air Locker but my friend and I got into discussing E-Lockers. Has anyone on here yet put an E locker from a 5th gen Trail into a 5th gen SR5? How extensive would the modification be? I would try to find a salvaged/junk yard Trail Edition if this is a good route to take. Also, would an FJ or Tacoma E Locker work?

Not 100% but I think I remember reading somewhere that the rear ends in the 5th gens were a new size. 8.2" maybe? Try messaging Harper7 and I bet he'll be able to help you out.

You know, I did see that measurement come across in something I read while researching too. It got me thinking that it may be much more involved than what I initially had in mind.

I would also check over on 120 forum those guys seem more aggressive on those kinds of mods !

You probably could do an E-locker but it would have tobe from a 5th Gen Trail (FactoryRide is right about the 8.2"). You also would want to get the harness and if I remember correctly their is a computer too.

If you could source all that for cheap then be the first to swap it in on the 5th and tell us all how it went.

I am leaning towards ARBs but I will be regearing and doing the front and rear as well.

The E Locker is starting to sound like more work than necessary. Maybe the air locker is the way to go.

ARB is the way I'd go. Go with the dual compressor set up, and have it for airing up and power tools.

Also, if you plan to regear, when you do the locker, it would be a good time to do gears since it'll be opened up. Could help cut on labor costs.
