Easy but fun off-roading near Temecula?

Hey guys, so I will have my 15 year old nephew this Sunday for some uncle/nephew time. I'd like to take him out off roading for a bit because I'm pretty sure he'd get a kick out of it. However, I don't have any self recovery gear. I have a recovery strap, fire extinguisher and am hoping to have my CB installed this week, but I don't have a come-a-long or winch yet, so if I get bogged down by myself I'm pretty much screwed. I will probably go out and buy a come-a-long this week so I'll MAYBE be able to get myself un-stuck, somewhat slowly but still......

Long story short, any of you guys interested in or willing to give recommendations on any trails near (within 1.5 hours) Temecula that I could hit up pretty safely on my own? Is it a completely stupid idea to go by myself or what? If I'm by myself, i basically want to do the equivalent of a little kid splashing a rain puddle with a pair of boots on.

Well first off, I am a firm believer in never go by yourself. Minimum of 2 vehicles. Secondly, you dont want to invite anyone to go "splash in a puddle with your boots on" with you? Now to answer you other questions, yes i know of a couple places within an hour-hour and half of you that is fun. A few that come to mind are Wildomar OHV subject to closure for 72hrs after a rain event. Cleghorn RD off 15fwy N. just before the Hwy 138. It is a 15mile long fireroad with difficult off-shoots going between Interstate 15 and Silverwood Lake(had snow on it last weekend). Main divide rd going from Elsinore all the way into Silverado Cnyn in Orange. PM me and maybe we can link up, i will have my kids with me also.

Pikeman, I'll heed your words of wisdom and not go alone....especially with no way to get myself out. I guess my invitation was kinda vague, but "any of you guys interested in" was the invite. Maybe I should of written, "any of you guys interested in going"....my fault.

I agree with Pikeman it is always best to go with other folks. Never venture yourself alone when going offroad, remember you wont have any phone reception and having an extra truck with you would become handy.

Yep, completley stock except for the tires. BFG 265/75/16's. I do have a trailer hitch.

Only reason I asked about the trailer hitch is it hangs down real low so might drag in spots.
